Get A High PR Before Charging For Links?

Do you think a directory should have a certain PR first before charging for regular links?
Would you pay for a link on a directory with a PR of 0?
Anyone have any success charging for links with no PR?

It depends on the quality of the directory. If a person finds a lot of spammy links, they are less likely to pay for a link. PR has some affect for certain buyers but does not prevent you from getting paid links.

Page Rank should have nothing to do with the operation of a directory. Your getting link farm and directory confused.

Well, with so many people looking at the PR before anything else, i really think a PR0, even a high quality one will not succeed. I do have one that i started 3 weeks ago, the directory has PR0.

The deal i offer is 1 professionaly wrote optimized article with 2 "in content links" for $5. The response has been 0. i thought it were a good deal, offering high quality content + incontent links, especially at $5 but no one is interested...

The funny thing is that when the directory will be PR5-6 they will all end up taking the same deal at $15+. So yes, a directory must have to my opinion the higher PR possible to succeed. (quality or not.)

That was in an ideal world! In the new world of new directories everyday, most have become link farms. ;)

I pay for links in a directory that has little or no PR, all the time. I require that it is a "quality" directory and that the page my site will go on is indexed. Beyond that, I have no requirements.

To me, if 1 person a year comes to my site from that directory, I consider it a good investment.

I operated directories long before page rank was ever thought of and did just fine. You have to have a good product to sell your customers, not just page rank.

PR is just one factor of directories IMO. Maybe the history and strength of one directory is much more important.

I'll no need to wait until it will get high PR. The bargaining power is not only the PR. You can consider the link quality and traffic that you have.

I think even if your page rank 0 it doesn't matter as long as your website has good traffic and consistently advertising.

If they need traffic, yes. But if they want to raise their PRs , No. I won't buy links from the sites with a PR lower than 6. PR is not everything. But you can filter bad sites with PR easily.

Even pr0 directory always have great potential to get higher PR later as long as the owner keep doing promotion

Not a good approach in my view. A PR6 Directory today can easily be a PR0 directory tomorrow. I have seen this happened before. Directory submissions (getting links) for the sake of getting Higher Page Rank is what Google is trying to bring to an end.

My Answer to Your Questions No.

    1) It is your directory. It is up to you to decide how you want to market your directory.

    2) I have done so on some occasions.

    3) I set up my bidding directory from scratch (bought a nice domain name, marketed it) and successfully sold links when it was still PR0. Now it is PR2.

I hope my testimony answers your questions. :D

Pagerank for me... tells how popular, old and reputed the directory is. So before submitting a paid link, I will definately see if it has good PR.

I don`t pay for links. But, if I did, I wouldn`t pay for links from low PR sites, including directories.
