    I’m translating a few pages I have on my current site into German. Will the German Google pick these up automatically or do I have to do something special?

    Thanks!

    It will certainly help if you get links from German websites to the German version of your website.

    Google will pick up the German pages as long as there is a link to them from your other pages.

    So, Google will know this is the German version or is there a tag of some type?

    It certainly helps to get some german links , like every page in fact.

    I recently create a german page on a site ranking well for his english and french keywords.

    I got 10/15 links from german directories with the right german keyword and pop : page 1/2 on google.de and google.ch in 2 weeks.

    Try this list of directories : http://webkatalog.datenautobahnraststaette.de/Internet/Suchdienste___Kataloge_/

    It's a bit boring if you don't read german fluently :)

    Google will figure out that it's German. It will also index your pages if you link to them (assuming the rest of your site is indexed).
    But for those pages to actually rank well in the SERPS you need links from German websites (or hope that there is no competition). The german-language version of DMOZ would normally be a suggestion - but I forget, DMOZ is down :(
    Seriously: find directories in German on your subject and submit the German-index page (you should have one).

    [edit: I have no experience in German, but I do have experience in Dutch]

    The only tag you shall put in your meta tags is
    <meta http-equiv="content-language" content="de">
    for the german pages.

    I've a german and an english section too and both are going very well.

    I never thought of that. :D

    I don’t think there’s anything you must do to get listed because google.de will find the pages by it self.

    My Site is English, (http://www.journalhome.com/), but my bloggers can post in any language.
    When the new entries are picked-up by the homepage, (the latest entries), I need to tell Google that the site is primarily English.
    I use the html tag:

    <meta http-equiv="content-language" content="en">

    HTML:
    But, Google been Google, it does not always work.
    Your best bet is to get linked by German sites.
