George Bush Domain, premium, please appraise - will rep

I am the owner of George - W - Bush - Library - dotcom (without the spaces or dashes, yes you read correctly). Snatched it out of TDNAM when it expired

I received an offer of $3,000 a few weeks back which I rejected. I think this domain will reach its max value late 08/early 09, so I'll probably hold it until then unless I get a reasonable offer (at least 5 digits). I may also develop the domain myself, or donate it to a worthy (read: satirical) cause because I simply don't like the man.

What would you guys say is the value of the domain?

For what its worth, I also have Hillary - Clinton - Library - dotcom (no dashes/spaces of course), not sure if thats going to be valuable or not. I would appreciate appraisals on it too.

Thanks a lot for your time.

Well, I'd say it is valuable, then again, only before specefic date, after that deadline expires it would be worthless, so sell it before you have time, dont be greedy.

    Good Luck :)

You're right, I should make sure I don't wait too long. I think though that the highest relevance is still a good deal away.

    Thanks for the reply. :D

Hillary - Clinton - Library - dotcom would only be valuable if she won the Presidency or at least become the Democrat candidate, there is a risk for you, if she became the Democrat candidate sell it quickly or if you want to take a long bet, bet that she will win the Presidency, then it is worth much more. Again this depends on your risk appetite.

Thats a good point, wisdomtool. I think if she becomes the nominee I would hold on, I think her chances would be pretty strong.

But yeah, if she loses the value is gone.

You should sell it for the offer you got. May be the value will go down. Sell it know there is no loss only gain ;)

htmlindex: Each President has their own library, which is founded after their term ends. They are often at universities, and are a highly sought after honor.

However with the current President, there has been a good deal of argument as to where his library will be. The staff of SMU, the original location, threatened to quit if the library were brought to their school, saying that Mr. Bush's policies are not in line with Methodism.

But serious talk or construction on the library will not begin until the end of Bush's term, so the domain is not extremely valuable until late 2008 - except for those planning ahead.

usmanzali: I may very well end up not taking the offer of 3K, but I highly doubt it. I'm confident that the domain will fetch a higher price tag on Sedo than 3k, I would take at an absolute minimum 10k.

The other question is whether or not I should develop the domain - would this raise or lower the value?

Yes develop it, it will always be beneficial, you can then get better stats etc on the site to add in the sales pitch, and you can partly put something about selling it. But, put good content. Considering the potential value of the domain, you dont need to plaster it with google ads and make it looks horrible until any offer comes.

You cant lose anything with content.

Thanks Spark, good to hear. The reason I've been skittish about developing it is that often people don't want a domain which has a history, and would prefer a clean start. The offer I referenced was indirectly from the GWB library foundation itself, and they would be an example of someone who would want a clean slate.

But considering I am not interested in their purchasing of the domain, and likely it will go to a private individual looking to monetize the domain, it probably is best to go ahead and create some content. As much as it pains me to do so, it would probably also be best to create positive content - which is going to be tough for me.

    Thanks for responding!

I would sell it before you come into Copyright or Trademark violations. When they do put up the library, the library might have rights to the name.

Doughboy: Thanks man! Truthfully, I'm happier with the potential buyer not having the domain than the 3k they offered, funny story I'll be happy to share in private if you care. Anyone else and I may have taken it.

BlogSalesman: Good point, I have checked with my attorney and he does not forsee issues. Names cannot be trademarked, although the Library aspect does through a kink into it. Still though, I am not too worried about it. Check out www.georgewbush.org - humor site which I'm sure they would have gone after if it were possible.

Thanks for your feedback gentlemen! I will definitely let you all know what pans out, although its probably going to be a year before the domain sells.
