George Bush is showing signs of true leadership. "Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government and to the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility." - George Bush during a press conference today. Taking responsibility doesn't do anything to make any of those poor families feel any better, but it does stop the blame game. (or at least it slows it down and de-politicizes it) He also went on to say "I'm not going to defend the process going in, but I am going to defend the people who are on the front line of saving lives." It's hard not to respect these words. Finally, we get a decent speech out of our President .
It only took 5 years to get that speech Seriously though good for him, as CEO of the nation it was his responsibility and it's nice to see him own up to it.
Now we just have to wait for the usual gang in DP to show up and post that even if he admits that he is responsible, he is not responsible. People just don't understand what he said and in truth everybody else including the people are responsible but not Bush.
And we will all chalk this up to the usual gworld post. Seems that Bush tends to say "the buck stops here" more often then not. Admitting responsibility and making the necessary changes are 2 different things, lets hope that all will accept responsibility in their departments and make the corrections so that if another "katrina" or 9-11 happens the response time will be instant.
its is amazing, I think that is the first time, that I remember bush actually took responsibility for anything that went wrong.
I think his usual versions are: "The Buck Stops Anywhere But Here." or the other one "The Buck Stops Here and Everywhere." That is the reason it is such big news and surprise that he is finally taking responsibility for something.
Never thought id hear him say anything like that, fair-dos though. Hopefully he has. Everybody deserves a second chance. Not sure if he deserves a third though lol. It is good how he has stood up and took the blame though, considering it was largely out of his control in the first place.
When has he ever accepted responsibility for anything, even when 99.9% of the experts in the world and current and former experts on lets say terror state one thing, he goes the exact opposite then blames it on the experts who told him y when he said x. I have made my opinions of Bush well known, I can't stand the guy. I'm sure his admitance of guilt in this subject is to simply stop the public outcry, but I myself still will give him credit for finally stepping up to the bat! First time I can almost say I was proud of him?!?!?
Bush has had a hard task after 9/11 and has handled things very well. I don't care what anyone says, Al Gore or Kerrey would have most likely crumbled. If you guys want to citisize Bush, fine ... but imagine yourselves in the situations he has been in. It's easy to lean back and pinpoint the thing someone could have done better. Be put in the situation, and the true test of character will come. Not many would pass the way that Bush did.
Yes but he gets praised for something that happens under his command 'gore, kerry, clinton' would have been ripped on, but bush gets the glory. Then to top it off uses faulty intelligence that even the experts in the world and the US, even inside of the US government stated was faulty to go to war with Iraq when that's what his agenda was from the beginning to take on Saddam and use 'terror' as it's basis is a bit cheesy, can't wait for history to be the judge.
The U.N. people have been paid off by Saddam for years to overlook violations of his "probation". In all of the talk over whether there were WMD's, people seem to forget that Saddam was like a convicted criminal who has wilfully overlooked the rules again and again. Blame the United Nations and their delegates. If you want to look at corruption, look back a little further.
... I'm not saying Bush doesn't mess up. but please: if you guys are so eager to pinpoint his mistakes, then don't miss out on also addressing some of the issues that have led to all of this to begin with. I think the Bush bashing is ignorant. Make a difference in this world if you have something good to say/add instead of bashing someone who is dealing with situations that most people wouldn't be able or willing to deal with. Just my 2 cents.
LOL talking points from the repubs, how many of our 'allies' have broken just as many UN mandates? Israel for one, yet we continue to back them and don't invade them making this point mute. Still does not justify the lies to get into the conflict to begin with now does it? At the end Saddam the butcherer like it or not was letting us conduct any type of inspections we wanted to, until Bush pulled them out. How is pointing out that almost all experts disagreed with what Bush pushed the war on Bush bashing or pointing out mistakes? This is more than a 'mistake' it's an outright lie. So in otherwords pointing out anything a president does that is either misleading, of fng up the country is bashing them? What points that lead to it do you wish to discuss? I watch and read way to much news, have for years, maybe that's my problem information overload.
LOL so that makes you right? LOL, sorry I don't need the rep, could actually care less. Red rep? didn't give or take any rep from you? now confused as I have reread it? Little suggestion, might want to ask before you accuse someone of something. I didn't give you a red rep, but I see you did me as I got a red rep right after you accused me of giving you one. I was actually trying to become involved in the convo and list opinions and facts, instead of responding you however decided to accuse me of something and appear to give me a red rep in return? I however wont accuse you of giving it to me, I'll simply state whomever gave me it why don't you disprove what I have to say instead of hiding like a coward?
OK, if you didn't, I'm sorry! And I mean that. And I will green you as soon as I can to make up for it. About disproving: I have a problem with people bringing up the issue of WMD's while ignoring the fact that Saddam has spent 10 years after Gulf War 1 violating the international treaty he has signed. Violated it again and again. Then he paid off the delegates of the United Nations whose job it was to make sure he follows the rules. It is ok to criticise a president, but in my opinion people seem to forget that we are not the ones who have started this international issue. Maybe my mistake was to even get back into a political discussion, because from what I have experienced in here, those are neverending stories and at the end the Anti Bush people are still against him, and the ones who have supported him, still support him. The only thing that changes is that enemies are being made in here. I am not here to defend Bush, but I cannot see how people can keep on bashing him when he was under so much pressure to do the right thing. We have so many enemies world wide, and we have had them before Bush became Pres. When we focus on Bush and whatever he could have done better, we are taking our focus away from those who benefit from us being a weak and divided nation. I don't think there is too much of praising going on when it comes to Bush. More like many Americans being thankful that things didn't get worse after the attack 4 years and 2 days ago. Every man has his flaws, and expecting too much from any president as a human being would be wrong. That is why we have elections every 4 years and are not a dictatorship. The question is if the world is intact today, and other than Saddam's life, it is. So what exactly is it that Bush should have done differently? What do you think Gore or Kerrey would have done better? Considering what has happened to out nation, we are in pretty good shape. Once again, sorry about the rep thing, but these political discussions get very heated, and being "complimented" by a red rep with a nasty remark attached, I looked back in here and saw you being the only one viewing this thread and assumed it was you. (can someone please green him and I will green him in exchange )
