I suppose everyone knows Greenland and Iceland have their names reversed. I grew up in the area of the US called the mid west. I lived about 700 miles from the east coast and 2000 from the west. I would say it was more accurately the mid east but that name would have caused the area to peace problems. May be it should be the mid north. I kinda cringe when I hear Texas referenced as south west as a good portion is northeast of me in southern California. Texas is south central...but that would confuse it with the bad part of L.A.. Have you noticed and geographic misnamings?
