i just added the geo visitors code to my website yesterday and i can't figure out what the green icon is for. i know the red icons show the locations that correspond with IP addresses of visitors to your page, but there is always one green icon as well. yesterday the green icon was in washington, dc, but today it is in durham, north carolina. does anyone understand the significance of the green icon?

You are the little green man for map associated with your site. It seems many ISPs home offices are in Virginia. Like you I sometimes see myself there and others in the state of Texas. It depends on the dial up number I use.

Green is "you" (or at least as far as it can trace you).

ok, i got it. that was an easy solution! i was just confused because it was in a different location two days in a row. i live in raleigh, nc, so it was weird that it showed up in virginia one day, and more locally, in durham the next. are all of the IPs i'm picking up so erratic? i don't use AOL, so i didn't think i would be routed through virginia.

    thanks for the help!

Really just depends on how accurate your ISP allocates their IPs.

also...i don't use dial up, i have a cable modem. does the problem with showing up in virginia commonly occur with cable and dsl? i thought it was only an issue with dial up.

    thanks again!

(ps. i didn't mean to leave the thumbs down icon on my first message. i'm all thumbs up!)

Sometimes cable providers will initially allocate IPs to their corporate HQ, then later (after they are in use) reallocate them to the local NOC. So sometimes the location lags a little bit because of how they do their allocation process.
