Generating more comments

I have had my blog going now for almost a month and I am struggling to get comments. I held a contest and my traffic is decent but my comments suck so far I have had 978 visits according to Google but only 15 comments and most of those where saying they where entering my contest.

Any ideas on ways I can get more people to comment on my site? Thanks

 

Controversy tends to raise the number of comments, so maybe write some more controversial posts. Also, build traffic, 978 visits isn't much.

 

Do you allow your commenters to be notified when there is a response? If not, this plugin will do the trick for you:

I had the same problem but I thought that email notifications on comments was built into WP.

I agree with the content response as far as getting more people to comment initially but without email notification the thread of commenting gets lost.

Imperfection is also a way. If your post says it all and does it all, there is no reason to post a comment.
Posing a question also helps. There is a certain logic behind each post. Express your opinion and ask your readers for their.
Try commenting on other blogs too. It will get your blog noticed, it will increase the comments and probably get you some friends

 

Thanks guys for the idea's. I do have the wp plug in installed for subscribe to comments and I know my traffic is not perfect but I keep working on it.

I will try and maybe write some controversial stuff....hmmm need to get some ideas flowing.

 

Controversial stuff works well, far better than useful content (so I've found )

If you post your comment in other people's blog,normally they come back to visit and comment on your posts.

 

Thanks to everyone who suggested some idea's. I will keep working on content and I am running a contest for the top commenter. I will see if that helps.

You could ask your friends to comment on your blog. But if you don't like that, maybe you should make more apprehensive posts 'cause people are forced to comment whatever it takes when your posts could relate to their ideas...

 

Write a post that creates interest in the mind of the readers.

Coming along good I have had a definite increase in comments. The catch will be if people come back after the contest is over.
