Generate excel files with php

    Hello ,
    could anyone tell me how i can make a .xls file with php
    for example i want to create a sheet with this data

    david 10 20 30
    bob 5 5 5

    now how can i do that?

    i want to use fopen , not header ( because i should save file on the server not in users' computer)

    could you tell me about csv file in php?
    because when i was searching in this site i found some information csv but i couldn't know what 's that?
