Hello All: We have been buying a lot of advertising for our portfolio properties and I was just wondering, what things have people been doing to generate the most traffic for their sites? Besides the general things of banners and link buying, is there anything that you are doing that generates other traffic? I know this is a broad question, but I am just looking for any outside the box ideas.
I think one key thing to keep in mind is it's not all about traffic traffic traffic. Many time you will get a LOT of traffic but it's pure junk. Make sure your measuring the time on site and page views for any purchase of traffic you do. That way you can begin to determine what traffic is of the highest quality and actually worth paying for. If it sounds to good to be true it probably is.
Just getting onto web 2.0 strategies and if you manage this carefully (staying on niche and targeting specific keywords and forums, groups etc) you can find many very targeted visitors. I've recently tested two new sites with these methods only and have gotten around 100 uniques/day for each, and these people have been quite targeted. HTH Keith
I generate a fair amount of instant traffic with social bookmarking, but the conversions are lower than normal search traffic, however. It's all about getting targeted traffic that's interested in what your website offers...
We get a ton of traffic from social bookmarking. Although we have found that most of the traffic is empty traffic. We also do a great deal in forums with better results.
