I currently have a blog which is about science and technology, while at the same time, it has some humor and other stuff like life but they are a bit oldies (maybe 2 month so they aren't on front page). I also posted some informations about my server being down for server change and sometimes for upgrades, should that be removed or would you consider that ok? If you want to see for yourself what it looks like > http://www.excitris.com. If you have any comments about the general topic sentence, go ahead.
I think if you have a good of return users then posting server status is a very good idea. You dont want your users searching for a new spot to read.
I think that your blog looks fine. However, since it is primarily about technology and science, i would change the order of your links. Having humor seems like it would be a bonus. But, move it to the bottom of the list. The SEs view the order of your lists as a symbol to the relevence of the information contained therein. One thing though, i might try to make the humor more directed to the type of content that you have in the categories you are initially targeting (tech and sci). This would help to provide your niche-targeted market segment with, perhaps, some humor that they might have the keen ability to understand. Sort of like inside jokes. That in return could lead to a viral marketing campaign down the road. just some thoughts... hope they help.
Thanks neosite, I just modified that category list to be more targeted, I had no idea about that. So you guys things the category are "strict" enough of some should be removed?
I agree with Neosite's input, and that it's important for you to stay on-topic as much as possible - this will help both with SE placement and attracting/retaining visitors. Since the main topic of your forum is 'Science and Technology', you may want to edit your categories to reflect this. An example would be 'Techno-Science Humour & Fun', instead of just 'Humour & Fun'. HTH, Sam
