I think a payment method should also be considered when buying or selling a site. I would much rather send / recieve payment with a more standard payment carrier, rather then some shady overseas eGold broker. I am not saying PayPal is the great, but they are more widely used, and do require a lot more registration info then some of the other carriers. It is also extremely important to use a escrow when doing any purchase over 1000 dollars, and remember to use a reliable escrow.

I disagree and I would caution against using tactics used by Sitepoint.
Sitepoint is Sitepoint. DigitalPoint is digitalpoint.
With each new upgrade renegade forums filled with Sitepoint refuguees created new forums that were better than sitepoint.

With each upgrade Sitepoint had waves of unhappy users. Yet they forged ahead everytime. I hardly ever visit SP now. Sitepoint is not evil but DigitalPoint is better in so many ways.

Sitepoint is huge and can do almost anything they want. Anyway... don't copy Sitepoint.

    Great Post!

On the topic of selling a website...

If you're going to sell a website, diversify your income on it. Selling a website that makes $500 per month is great and all, but if that entire $500 comes from only one source (ie. AdCents), then the entire income from that site is precarious, at best. If you can derive income from more than one source, then the website will make more money AND it will be worth more when you try to sell it.

What about people that auction something then dont sell!!

I think the Buy and Sell guidelines should be reviewed in line with Legal Auction regulations.

What you are doing here is offering a platform and encouraging individuals to conduct auctions with out following legal guidelines.

I get annoyed that i bid on an auction and then nothing happens! Users doesnot respond, ignores PM's ect ect. Legally, if you put something up for auction and stipulate start bid, reserve, BIN and end, then you are bound by those conditions.

Maybe it is time to take a hard line on all users that fail to complete!

well there's my ten pence worth :)

Stop including the "Huge Potential" line in the site description, as we all know this is BS and an instant turn off. Also, why request details by PM? Why not post all of the details from the start?

They are great tips and while they should be common sense, it never fails to surprise me how much some sellers often leave out. And then they get dodgy about answering. Then there are those that include lots of info and just exude trust. They're the ones I usually buy from.
