Good points, but I think you made a typo around this part "Where you banned?" should that be "Were you banned?"

    I have a request....

Will people PLEASE STOP trying to build service sites on .INFO domains!!!

I mean crap like this ereminders.info (reminder service) urlzilla.info (proxy) hideguy.info (proxy)

I mean I can understand blogs, article sites, and general info sites but people are setting up EVERYTHING on .info domains...

I know they're cheap but have some dignity!

Let's go with "information" or content sites.

I have one question concerning potential places where we can successfully sell our websites. I tried different services but have found only 3 real places where your site can be sold (I have not tried DP forum yet):

    1. Ebay
    2. SitePoint
    3. BuySellWebsite

All others provide much less potential buyers to your offer.
Am I right? Can you add something?

Never heard of 'BuySellWebsite' and eBay has too many scams going, (fake websites and so on).
DP and SitePoint are usually the better choices for small to medium sized sites.

    Thanks, I'll try DP.
But what you can say about DNforum? I saw a lot of site selling threads there with wide discussion.

Good thread. I would say Sitepoint and DP are just as good. I'm not sure why some need to bash one or the other. A business is a business and you may have some bad experiences anywhere - doesn't mean the place is bad. Just keep doing what you do best and it all work out.

I would like to see this thread get back ontopic as well.

I have spent 7 figures on buying and selling websites, and I have written MANY articles and guides on buying and selling websites.

I would be happy to give permission to add them to this thread, but only if the moderators agree.

    Great advice :)

I was wondering whether you guys have links to any alternative publications that are geared to selling website/ecommerce sites.

Are there any particularly good threads which discuss how to value a website, the types of points to take into consideration etc?

    Respect

it's an excellent post and some really good comments in this post.

I saw one that caught my attention that mentioned:

Don't lie, don't cheat, AND DON'T try to value your site based on the 'potential'.

Anouncing a BIN in the first post is a bad idea indeed. If no one is interested in your site after a while, you should reduce the BIN, if there is no BIN, you reduce the starting BID, having the same BIN in mind.

I totally agree with not announcing BIN on first post as it's a like any other sales process you don't tell your client the price right away. you wait and see how much they're willing to pay.

but about that NOT evaluating a site based on potential... as any deals that happen on and off line.. they all are based on how fast the investor can recover their investment... and that many times relies on future predictions and a businesses income..

I agree with that because diversified traffic sources provides a certain amount of safety fro the future.
