I don't know whether there are any A level students (like the final grade in America), I'm gonna be doing two general studies exams in like 3 hours, all year i have said it was pointless, what do you think. Basically, the 2 exams im doing this aft are a german paper of which we havent been taught any german since like yr 9 and a science, maths and technology paper which is full of multiple choice questions, what is the point in that.
No point at all. None of the reputable universities consider General Studies as a real subject. I got a B by the way.
Thats more than im gonna get, well done The problem is that it is great if you do german, maths and a science a level and your dads in politics, i have a mate who is in that exact situation which means he'll be getting an A, but for people like me who has done ICT, DT: Graphics and Music as my a levels i dont stand a chance.
When I was at college there was a requirement to put in x number of hours of class based study per week. As my 3 A-levels were just shy of that figure I took General Studies to make up the hours. I never bothered concentrating during lessons and there were elements of Spanish and German that I had never studied before which really didn't appeal to me... still got an A grade come the exam though! When I applied for universities their offers stated they were looking for certain grades in the other three subjects - the General Studies grade was not even a factor for them.
I sat mine in 1997. It was by the old AEB exam board (now part of AQA) and was very much source based - eg. read this newspaper article and comment, write a discussion about the pros and cons of wind farms. I don't see where German comes into the equation at all.
Yeh, my head of sixth form has been trying to tell us that unis accept general studies, but the evidence stared us straight in the face when applying to university, your offer is based on so many points or grades excluding general studies. So im just about to waste 3 hours of my afternoon sat at a desk whilst its nice and sunny outside in silence answering a multiple choice exam which i will finish in about 10 minutes cause i cant be bothered to answer the questions. What a waste of time.
You have to pick either french, german or spanish, i chose german cause i sat next to a person who did german a level in the lessons.
They've obviously changed it to make it more Euro-friendly (yuk). Don't you have to do 2 x 3 hour papers anymore?
Ive just finished two exams, you get 3 x 1.5 hr papers - one on languages and an essay question on moral issues or summat, i chose to do the question about whether comedians and cartoonists should have the freedom to perform or draw what they like, obviously that was about racism and offending people through comedy. And the second paper was science maths and technology, science was about a sewing machine and how it works, maths was about reflections and then there was another essay question (a choice of 6) i chose to do the one about whether "britain is sleepwalking into a surveillance society" which allowed me to talk about CCTV cameras and all that ID stuff. In conclusion it was 3 hours of my time wasted, everybody was finishing the paper in like half an hour and sitting there for the other hour.
