I plan on buying a .com from namecheap and I was wondering how many years I should register the name for.

It's 9.98 a year for every year, so should I take it one year at a time. Will the price change dramatically from year to year?

    what do you guys do?

I would register the domain for one year or three years if I have the money to spent. Even if the price change, the changes shouldn't be much.

Anyway check my signature link for cheaper domain ;)

$10 is a very flat price for .com and it wont change much in coming years. You may even get cheaper than $10 search for a deal on retailmenot.com about your favorite registrar, But wont recommend you go for other than name.com, godaddy.com, namecheap.com etc (top registrars)

For registration period, assuming that you will use that domain to develop your website, I recommend you 1 year + 1 year (= 2 years). While you must always keep 1 year as an extra time to expiry date, you will keep on renewing your domain on yearly basis. The extra 1 year will give you some SEO benefit and wont overload your budgets much. However you can add more years if your budget is good, but I dont think the prices will go up as much as your business go up in coming years.

Hope it helps : ) Enjoy your day.

You can find cheaper domains at godaddy and name.com. Around 9$ - the price did not changed in the last 5 years ( for the 2 I mentioned ).

How much do you want to save? You can make the money back of a domain name quite easily. The hard bit is finding a domain name that is available. If you find one you like just buy it.

Its $10 - if its really important that you keep and protect it then register it for a number of years. Most registrars offer a auto renewal so you never have to worry. If its a critical domain then register it for a long time and don't worry about it. As they say, 'a stitch in time saves nine'.

if you really are concerned about price, move it elsewhere i.e. GoDaddy and save the $3 per year.
