General Directory Question

I spend a lot of time editing directory entries. I do this to make sure the submissions make sense as well as adding relevant keywords to listings that lack them.

Is this policy used by other directory owners?

My own feelings are simply that I do not want poorly written entries in my directory, even though amending the submissions is time consuming. Presently I have to amend 7 out of 10 submissions.

I wonder what other directory owners thoughts are on this subject

You are not the only one, I often do that as well to add clarity to the description as well as making it sound more uniform.

I do the same but don't think we should really be editing entries. If a visitor submits a poor entry we should reject.

I don't mind editing paid/reciprocal submissions but I think it is about time I stopped editing free entries.

I always rewrite descriptions as well. Remove keyword stuffing, change to standard directory format, and usually shorten it as well.

I am amazed that people either spend a lot of time designing a website or pay for a website to be designed and then embark on a link building campaign that consists of poorly written submissions.

I'll edit entries to make sure the domain name is not used as the entry title, fix up any grammar or spelling issues, check the link given to make sure the site works and that the quality is appropriate and so forth. When ridiculous levels of keyword spamming are taking place I'll tone it down (or delete as the site is often crap in such a case anyway).

I want entries... happy customers so to speak. However, the quality level is under editorial control and it should be.
