    G'day DP Users,

My name is Simon and I'm from Sydney Australia.

I'm here because I have been handed the reins of a local forum here to start working out how to monetize it to cover the costs of hosting.

Initially I figured this would be pretty simple (even with my very limited webmaster skills) But when it came to looking at which way to go things got a little harder than I had guessed.

Regardless I think I can chuck a few golds into the tin to cover the costs and these forums have been a great assistance thus far during my lurking.

I do have to admit the concept of creating a passive income from the internet has passed my mind a few times, I dabble in other areas of investing (shares, Property.) but figured that creating a "business" investment vehicle based around an IM theme would be a good way to learn the ins and outs of running a business albeit with a lower startup cost.

My current plan is to get these forums I have been given the reins to the once over, upgrade the Vbulletin software, to some SEO work, add some adsense, and sell some more banner slots.

Once this is done I'm going to start my own project using what I have learnt and build something up (or several somethings) and try to create a passive income that can bring in some coin when I'm busy with other projects, show some fruits when I have time to work on these projects.

I guess tentatively I would set an initial goal of covering hosting costs for the year,
then aim for $100 per month passive income.

Whilst doing the forums project I have I'm going to be also looking at what options I have in regards to IM from Websites. There appears to be a wealth of information here that I have only just started looking at and lots if new words and acronyms that are currently meaning less to me but seem to pop up in every thread somewhere.

Maybe I'll just jump in the deep end and buy a website and see how long it takes for me to destroy it:p

Anyway... off to start trawling for information.

    Cheers
    Simon

Wow... Looking around a various threads and what others have done, I think I have just found a project that may go well if marketed correctly.

It's amazing how the ideas flood gates can open once the seed of thought is planted.

    Cheers
    Simon
