Gays in your religion?

Hello - I'm just curious about what your religion (if you have one) or beliefs say about gays in general? -- Last week I was invited by some friends of mine (gays) to a service at a Church, even I'm not not Christian or gay I went there to check it out and learn from the experience... I was surprised to find out that everybody there is gay/lesbian.
I still don't get it. why there's a Church for gays if Christianity (assuming) is against homosexuality to start with.

In Hinduism, homosexuality is considered as a Mental Disease. GAYs-n-Lesbos can not find any place in religion.

They're not part of the mainstream Christian beliefs that's for sure, the NT and the OT are clear on homosexuality.

It's disgusting but religious people are notoriously homophobic - clickexa, are you homophobic? I can't help but notice you use the derogatory term "lesbos" rather than adding 2 letters to say "lesbians".

There are churches for gay and lesbian people; they tend to teach all the stand religious stuff but they do not believe that God hates gays. IMHO this makes them slightly less insane than normal religious people because they've eliminated at least one belief that feeds hatred.

Why would it present a problem for you, Influ? Are you insecure in your own sexuality?

The worst thing that could happen to you is that somehow one of them finds you attractive and you decline. Or you start questioning your sexuality. Big deal.

This is not a hate or homophobia thread. All what we want to know what religions say about homosexuality.
Thank you for the inputs and keep them coming :)

Atheism IS the best thing ever- not because of no rules but because scientifically, medically, we are the most progressive "religion". We also discriminate monumentally less than other "religions".

We neither oppress nor deny individual freedoms and liberties.

If you care to join us we wont threaten you with eternal damnation. We also accept gays, we accept non Atheists (provided you aren't a .... pick a "rude word" of your own choosing. If I use one I'll likely get yet another infraction) - we support you, your freedom, your choice to live your own life.

Be whatever you want to be, just know that every religion opposes gays and individual rights except for Atheism and Satanism.

PS - eric, do you honestly want quotes or the like? I can give you a quote from various "holy" books that say being gay/lesbian/bi is an "abomination".

    Leviticus 18:22
Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.

Although the original is read as:
"Man shall not lie with mankind as one lies with womankind. It is an abomination"

There are other verses, but this is the key point in both Christianity/Catholicism and Atheism when it comes down to the dispute about allowing gays the same rights as heterosexuals.

    What's not to get Sir?

Many religions discriminate against Gays & Lesbians etc and so in order not to feel persecuted for still believing they may, like many others, decide to join a less dicriminatory church.

Now I have at least 2 gay neighbours (in fact at least four as two gay Policemen live around the corner) and one of them (Steve) is who we leave our 3 year old daughter under the care of when we have returned from a shopping trip quite regularly, so that we can do the three or four journeys up to our second floor flat so that she is safe and not left alone.

I get the impression Sir that you are homophobic and are tarring all Gay or Lesbain people as somehow not as good as "straight" people and that they are somehow in your opinion and perhaps due to religious views you have not worthy of the same rights and that you deem them to be infrerior or somehow doomed.

Maybe I am wrong but I have to ask and wonder how you can say your "gay friends" and yet you can so blatantly seemingly insinuate you hold them in a lower regard due to sexuality and come across as holding them in contempt.

    Please explain yourself Sir?

    Viva la love!

The greatest human hearts find love in the soul, the brain - not the physical body which is the shell.

Bisexuality is, whether you like it or not - the height of love. It is the pique of openness, the absolute pinnacle of human nature.

We are drawn to our counterpart in another; do we deny that because they are in a body of the same gender?

We are no more than our brains at the end of our day. You are not your body; it is merely your vehicle. You are your brain, no more no less- rejecting love based on some misconception regarding genders is the greatest form of denial and idiocy one can ever hope to achieve.

PS - Rev, I'm thrilled to learn you leave your daughter with two gay cops - some of my absolute best friends ever were two gay cops from my home town; absolute legends. Very brave men indeed - one was shot in the pancreas defending a young girl; as a result they were on shots until they died in '03 - he was beaten to death by Lebs trying to rape some woman in front of her daughter.

Hs McD - the only people who'd think you're gay for being cool with gays/lesbians are the people you don't have to worry about.

As a woman I am insanely attracted to people who support gays/lesbians; they are secure enough in their sexuality not to be threatened, making them the most masculine of men and smartest of women.

Homosexuality, according to the bible, is just like any other sin. We all struggle with things, the bible is God's word of his grace and mercy. It is acceptance of the sin that isn't tolerated in the bible. As a christian, I believe we shouldn't discriminate against homosexuals. At the same time, I believe the bible is clear on it... it is a sin, it is not acceptable, nor is anything else that is mentioned alongside homosexuality... adultery, murder, deceit, gossip, etc.
