Oh yeah and if gay sex grosses you out, I would think you would be for marriage. They always say "Nothing ruins a sex life like marriage".
For me, the denial of this simply equates to discrimination and I would never advocate discrimination, exclusion, etc. In the States last year, several US states passed "marriage protection" laws and amendments to their respective constitutions. Why? In my thirteen years of marriage, it has not once been threatened by someone who's orientation was different than mine. On a lighter note - why should they be denied the misery of marriage?
Personally I agree with you, however more than likely not for the same reason. Currently many states 'or is it all now?' give alot of these rights to same sex couples. I find this wrong as all you have to be is a couple to get perks like insurance, yet straight couples for the most part can not 'unless married'. If you're going to give these rights to gays IMO make them become married like straight couples have to be in order to get these rights. Call it something else if you wish, that might be a possible alternative but I'd rather see it equal than any side being pushed to the side. With same sex couple laws I see straight unmarried couples being pushed to the side I'm not gay, but being anti gay and fighting against rights of those who are gay realy goes against equality in any nation. I do however in the same breath see a couple of instances that gay rights people are fighting for that I strongly oppose, but will not get into that right now ---edit, opinion based on US laws not UK sorry
Because laws protect society. Homosexuality is a perversion and is destructive to society as a whole. My little brother is gay, I still feel it is disgusting, I tolerate it, I do not accept it though and he and I are fine with that. It is just my opinion, I am not trying to convince anyone that I am right, I may very well be wrong, but in my mind it is a disgusting perversion.
I don't think the thread was started so it could be spun into twisted humor; it's intent seemed to be to spark an educated discussion, political if you will, so I don't know why anyone would be bothered as to why it didn't detour down a road of humor or perversion. Henny made comments that dared to be clarified as was his right to make them and the rights of others to call him on them IMO ... It's nice to see a good debate on topics like this and not just whether or not Nintendo will ever get laid. That's not to say a good humorous thread isn't a nice diversion, but on the same sheet, a serious thread and discussion need not be turned into humor when it's a serious subject. Just my .02 ...
I kind of agree except its because civil unions (ie marriages) are not allowed that the forward thinking law makers in the states you allude to have to make those laws. A better solution would be to allow civil unions and only then do they get those rights. They could then repeal any laws that allow non-married couples to get those benefits...Then it would be fair to all. I have often heard the argument of getting married "for benefits". No straight guy marries another straight guy to save $300 on his Health Insurance. And if he does, he probably deserves it anyway The only thing as far as society I can think of (Since Henny didn't answer) is procreation. Not sure how Gay marriage would relate to that. Do you think that since marriage is illegal, they would go have a baby?
What I was going to say is not necessarily that political discussions are bad, but "ugly" political discussions are. There are such differences of opinions present on this forum, it's sometimes better and easier to just talk about the silly stuff. Many of us also don't want to show our real opinions. I myself believe that many express their true feelings, while other just slime their way thru political correctness. That is what makes me personally sick. If Henny wants to express himself, more power to him. If he wants to clarify himself, good, if not ... then there are millions of other people sharing his views and maybe someone else will clarify it.
Yep kind of my thinking, make it fair for ALL I'm a bit cloudy right now, see sig. I do think we are on the same page for the most part though I understand the current laws put forth in the US were to try to appease the gay community, it's not their fault, but I do see some unfairness for all sides given on the current laws/lack of laws.
Last year, after nearly 90% of the voters in my state voted to pass the "Marriage Protection Amendment" I wrote an op-ed in the major newspaper here. For some reason, the newspaper printed my phone number with the artice to wit I was sure I would begin getting hateful calls. To my surprise, of the 600+ phone calles received in 2 days subsequent to the articles printing - only 2 were mean or negative. The article was entitled "Fear Factor 2004"
The threat is the spead of disease, the nonpropagtion of humanity, the ill of children being raised in a disfunctional manner. The social drawbacks are numerous. Again, these are my opinions, I am not trying to convince anyone, just explaining my personal opinion.
STDs and other diseases are not confined to homosexuals. Hetersexual women are at the greatest risk of HIV and AIDS - and they're not getting it from gay men. Nonpropogation of humanity - is 6,000,000,000 not enough for our planet right now? Children being raised in a dysfunctional manner? Child abuse, alcoholism, divorce, drugs and other issues aren't doing it on a much larger scale? I'm not trying to pick a fight with Henny - I respect his views, and like him, not trying to convince anyone - just explaining my counterpoints ....
