I swear I can't even write a simple friggin post on my own blog without someone ripping it.

    http://www.copyscape.com/view.php?o...m/if-youre-not-using-chitika-by-now/&w=161&c=

    I mean come on!

That's one of 4 I found just today!

This guy in particular is a real loser. If you do a copyscape on his own blog you'll see pretty much ALL of the articles on the site are stolen.

I think the whole "content is king" creedo we all live by is starting to put way too much pressure on new webmasters. They cant write their own. So instead of buying content or asking for permission they run out and steal it!

Really pisses me off to see my own blog getting ripped.

I can understand takign content then re-writing it to make ti your own. That takes work and I have no problem with that. But at least ACT like you TRIED to rewrite it!

Add those Copyscape banners they offer, it tends to make them think twice (and then they do it anyway).

Ahh but the content isn't syndicated.

If it were for example that article would have my Chitika affiliate links like it has on my blog. ;)

The "point" of providing syndication feeds is because the permalink points back to my site. This guy and people like him steal the content, dont link back to your site, put thier own ads up to make money off your content (he hasn't but others do) and give you no credit.

He did a flat out page copy and paste.

Im prepping a plagiarism C&D letter for his host now.

    Yup, you gotta hate it.

I had one post go frontpage on shoutwire and their were 35+ posts in blogs and forums that linked back. . . but I dunno how many posted without a link that I won't know about.

Your post at his site is showing up in google real well if you do a search on the title he used.

    "Missing out on Chitika?"

Designteks what George said is I believe the generally accepted idea behind syndication.

Most big sites have a clearly stated policy with regards to use of their rss feeds however I think the conditions of use are clearly spelt out in the cc license on George's site.

They state that attribution is necessary, and no derivative works may be produced.

George I would look at changing your syndication buttons to /wp-rss.php as opposed to /wp-rss2.php. Plus you could use feed burner and add adsense to your feed.

It sure does look like this guy is getting rich off of you! (JJ) I don't understand the argument though that they are stealing money from you if they get adsense clicks

The basic tenet of blogs and syndication is that you have to say where it came from unless the author has given explicit permission to the contrary (which is highly unlikely)

I didn't used to use any license with my blog content or feeds, but to make it clear to anyone who was tempted I put a Creative Commons license on my feed via feedburner. If someone were to rip me off verbatim and I found out about it I would take whatever action I could against them.

Actually scratch the comments I made about swapping to wp-rss.php

The easiest way is to do this:

Under the wordpress admin select Options>>Reading

Then under Syndication fees select 'Summary' instead of the default 'Full Text'

Well in any case, UPDATE :)

The person contacted me pretty quickly and informed me that he has removed my content from his site. He went on to explain that it was a simple case of him using software that was supposed to add content to his site. He didn't know the software was actually just going out grabbing folks content.

In reply to the "hes getting rich off you" </sarcasm> statement. No matter what scale it's being done on it's wrong. Now I'm no saint and have actually considered using "scraper" technology. But this incident left a bad taste in my mouth so I'm leaving that for everyone else.

But that's not my point of frustration. My issue is when you let someone get away with jacking your content, even on a small scale, they tend to keep on doing it. No he isn't making a lot of money off that post most likely but thats not the only way hes hurting me. Duplicate content, to name another thing, spooks me and I always try my best to avoid it.

Just like I said in my first post we all agree that content is king. If you're fine with people constantly plagiarising yoru content then have at it. I on the other hand am not. That's just my take on it.
