Gauging Power Of A Specific Link

A friend of mine runs a research groups website at his University (.edu domain). The site is 5 simple pages with 5 internal links each (just the main nav), each page has a pr5. He added a link to my site in the footer of each page because I helped him make the site.

Any ideas/guesses what type of results I might expect to see in both PR and serp?

Not sure if its relevant but my site is about travel (so not a related topic to the research site) and has been around for about 2 years, but I only really started working hard on it about 6 months ago. It has a pr0 but the attached blog. domain has a pr1 with some higher internal pages. I'm a bit surprised it's still a pr0 as it has some decent links, but I know enough to not be too surprised by any google results.

    Thanks for any help.

Does the link have the anchor text of your keyword. If so, you may see a small impact in a few months. One PR5 link is not going to make a huge difference in my opinion. It will certainly help, but not that much. The value of the link also depends on how many outbound links the site has. The fact that it is a footer link also makes the link less valuable.

Yeah it has my keyword. The site has 0 outbound links (besides mine) and only 5 internal links.

So its nothing to be too excited about?

it depends how competitive the keyword is. If it is an easy keyword, one link may be enough. I am used to optimizing for really competitive keywords (over 500,000 searches/ month) so that is what my experience is based on.
