From the signature you can see I'm new to eCommerce and building a business on the web. My site in in dire need of SEO but in the meantime I have been promoting my site through link exchanges and forums that I frequent. I just started promoting the site last week and I'm not expecting an immediate explosion but I would like experienced opinions on my progress so far. Of course I do not show up in search engines for any of the products I sell yet (I think that is due to the lack of SEO work and of course.. time) but my site does come up #6 at yahoo for my business name and #2 for my business name on google.. with an average of 50 uniques a day would this be considered good progress? Also I have another question, I understand search engines but when I'm at home my business comes up #1 and #2 on yahoo, here at my girlfriends house it comes up #6 and again #1/#2 at work. Its similar on google but lately I've stayed #2.. just curious why this is?
Hello there. 50 uniques a day is a fantastic start. Don't listen to the astronomical traffic metrics that you might come across, most of them are bogus. At my e-commerce shop (http://www.lojadasflores.pt) we started at 40/70 uniques a day on the first two months. We were also converting 5/8% of those visits, which is very satisfactory. Right now, at 4 months of online activity, we are at around 100/150 uniques a day and the conversion rate stands. I am of course referring to organic visits, no ppc at all. So to sum it up, I think you are doing well. Just monitor the progress and make the necessary readjustments so that the progression is positive rather then stagnant.
the ranking difference is because of the google datacenters.. results eary in each datacenter.. dont mind those
Considering your site I would suggest you to concentrate more on locally and neighbouring areas, you could add holiday theme since the festive season is ahead to attract more visitors to your site.
