That statement is a known myth & whoever actually did say that was referring to lower memory.

BTW MSN search is about as decent as something found in 1998.

If it comes down to $$$ as everthing usually does Microsoft will topple Google eventually especially if Google does not get off its high horse with constantly jerking webmasters around in the SERP's and providing subpar search results as a whole. As for the adsense program if G doesn't start paying webmasters a better share of the revenue as YPN does and Microsoft starts its own version of adsense and pays better than Google does I am sure that both Yahoo and Microsoft offering good paying ad programs together will force Google to make some changes to their payout structure or end up loosing some serious revenue.

Never say never. Although it would be tough. History of search engines so far states they never last too long. Google may be an exception though as you say...

MSN search is just flat out too inaccurate to "crush" google. I know this from both a webmaster perspective (like most of you) and as a websearcher. I rarely use MSN because It almost never gives me the best results. Google > Yahoo > Ask Jeeves > MSN.

I have a search tool on my startup menu right now and I've never used it.

I have used Google a lot over the last few years and I am starting to get sick of it. It seems like all the top pages are just ad farms and gateways.

For the most part, Live.com gives me better results and it looks cooler :p

i think people just bash msn because everyone bashes msn

its not easy to spam them anymore, at least for competitive terms, their results look kind of similiar to googles now

Could not agree more with this. Also when MS plan something they do execute it. What I would like to see is ongoing competition between MS and google because it will result in better products for us. Once MS or Google wins then again its a monopoly.

What M$ has going for it is their OS and office platforms.

With the new vista and office "live" search will be heavily integrated which will result in more users using it. Lawsuit coming? perhaps, but that may take 5 years to litigate, by then those 5 years of users will be accustomed to using live search built into all the M$ tools.

    Time will tell..

I am excited about the competition too. However, concerning the matter of privacy, I don't know why some of you are assuming Microsoft will uphold the higher standard... I'd go with the company whose slogan is "Don't be evil"...

And what will they achieve with their lawsuit? Microsoft designed a product, it works "as designed". You can't sue someone for not making something your way. Its like suing Ford for not making cars in pink -- because your paint company only makes the pink color...

Google lately has turned into a money machine. Most of their "lastest and greatest" has actually not been their own making, but instead buying out other companies. Examples: GoogleTalk, AJAX, etc.
(AJAX isn't a google technology, they just over-used it).

Also for those of you complaining about the cost of Windows -- imagine how much manpower goes into Windows, and it costs just a fraction of other pieces of software that don't take half the man-hours such as almost all the software Adobe makes.

I'm not on the MS side, but I believe there should be logic behind an argument instead of the common "M$ sucks".

Have you seen the fact M$ was sued in Europe (and lost) and sued in the USA (and won)?

By using unfair practices to leverage out competition you break laws in respective countries.

Much like Apple is being sued by European countries for its "closed" iPod technology.

I didn't say I like it or dislike it or I agree or disagree. But facts are facts and the laws are the laws.
