I don't think the new algo that I am seeing today is going to be much of a threat to Google.

That's all fine and dandy. Let me ask you, though, where do you search from? Do you ever use the word "Google" as a verb as in "Google it"?

The suspicion our corner of the internet world now holds for Google (or maybe call it the lack of assumed goodness) may or may not bubble over to Aunt Betsy looking for a recipe - but so long as G is delivering relevant results to Betsy I don't think she'd care much about the (mis)management at G or anywhere else.

We care because of our deep involvement in the industry. It's like anything else - if it works it works - and your average surfer isn't going to even WANT to know about the inner workings of it.

I think Google's brand loyalty and recognition are here to stay for a long while in same way that Kodak meant photographs, Xerox meant photocopy and IBM meant computer. Note that all three of these examples no longer hold true. But Google is to search as they were to thier product lines and as such they likely have some life left in them before we'll be saying "remember when Google meant search?"

I don't think MSN can "crush" google or even come near it. Do you believe if Google says we will crush MSN?

These businesses are highly specialised. I wouldn't try "search business" if I was Bill, I believe he is throwing away the money just to be number one in another branch. I would buy more shares of Google instead. I would also use "powered by Google" search on my site, I guess I would earn a good lot of money by adsense search :D :D

How could Google SUE microsoft for making MSN the default search engine? Windows OS is owned by microsoft, they should be able to do whatever the hell they want.

They should ban google from operating systems, pull a little Windows update action ;)

I mean, even though you may disagree with that, dont you think that they have the right to do so? It's THEIR property, they OWN windows..

Google should be thankful, but no, as with anything or anyone, SELFISH.

    Nonsense!!!

I myself am anti-microsoft but considering the money they have to invest in, MSN has the potential to overtake Google.

And with Google's SERPs malfunctioning most of the time in the guise of updating, MSN might in 3 years time surpass Google.

Dunno wht's the anti-microsoft game, but every other person I meet today wants to show some kind of anti-m$ attitude, seems to be a heroic feat today ?
Some say MS should go down, other's say it's Bill gates should be strangled to death and what not!
His company makes the software that runs the computers of most of the people in here!
All these anti-m$ propoganda but does he really care ? He is the world's richest man, he is famous, he is smart, he is talented ... lol
Still dunno what's wrong with you guys ....

In my opinion Yahoo and Google are always going to remain in the top because of the popularity and brand name, and people are going to continue to use Yahoo and Google. Just because Msn brings a new technology does not mean that its going to gain search traffic. Microsoft should concentrate more on doing improvements to Windows Vista because from what people have said they are not impressed.

When I goto the Google.com. Do you know what I see? I see page that shows up immediately, with on single box. I goto MSN and I see a portal. I want to just tell Bill Gates. When I want to search. That's what I want to do. I don't want to spend 10 seconds loading the page. It be all cluttered up on the screen. Same with Yahoo. Sure on Yahoo they have search.yahoo.com. But I don't want to enter all that.

The best thing that Microsoft can do is when you go to Live.com that it only shows the search box beacuse the page will load faster and people will get use to the live.com domain. Just like geej says people only want to search thats all.
