How and why the Coca-Cola Company thought the "New Coke" was palletable is beyond me. I hope Warren Buffet made sure whoever came up with that idea got "canned". :D

I personally don't like how MSN is handling this search war. I believe MSN is throwing some low-blows, even as far as penalizing or banning sites that run Google ads. Google provides a decent income for many webmasters, and for some webmasters to turn around and bad-mouth Google is a joke!

Come on now, I've never heard of Google penalizing or banning a site simply because it ran YPN or any other competitive ads. Why? Because, Google isn't biased like all the other search engines. They provide relevant results for the best user experience.

Google deserves to be where they are now. Period.

Google is mostly a search engine, and they do it well.

it's too late. people won't care even if MSN delivers better results cuz they are already used to google.

Since this thread started in May 2006, Msft has continued to lose marketshare in the SE's. And as others have noted the term "google" is ubiquitous with "search" and it may be too late even if they had better results, which they do not!

Because Mozilla has a whole 5% share of browsers? Mozilla and google may be helping each other, but Microsoft is helping itself.

Windows > IE7 > Live Search. They can ban google altogether from users using IE, or make FireFox "incompatible" if they'd like. People don't understand the power Microsoft has. Start thinking outside the box, those who succeed do.

Go back about 7 or 8 years....who was king then? Yahoo...and no one thought it could be overthrown.

I am a fan of google and all there services but i think some healthy competition would be great to get them to realize that users are valueable.

The existing anti-trust agreement with the DOJ would prevent something like that from happening. Or did you simply forget about that?

MS power is limited by a couple of things

    1. The Consent decree.
    2. IE has been integrated with various MSN properties including search for years now. For a long time if you updated IE it would switch to whatever MSN search product was available. You wanna know what MS found out? People were typing Google at msn and leaving.

If Gates wants to crush Google then Microsoft will have to *start* putting out good, sleek products that people want to use. It's as simple as that. But they've been around forever and still haven't figured this out, yet still make billions. Go figure?

Actually... banned for *.googlecalendar.com and googlecalendar.com/ redirection created under developmental agreement. Once it was a success, Google decided to ban me from adsense and sue for the domain. Apparently Brin and Page are too busy counting dollars to care what the company is doing to developers...

I think there should also be more competition. When your site gets banned from Google you loose alot of traffic and some peoples sites get banned or penelized even though they have not broken the TOS.

I'm not sure if anyone saw this yet, but on the top 101 dumbest business moments there is #61....Microsoft employees use Google more than MSN search.

Shoot...I cannot post the link cause I am still a DP noob. Darn. Well, its on the main page of CC Money. Go digg. haha.

I am beginning to hope Google will get some competition soon. Otherwise, Google will end up like MS.
