Google Survives mostly on PR system, and if a competitor comes with superior PR system i doubt google will stay.

Like someone said " We win Wars with better techonologies "Intel vs AMD one such example.

I think Gates is saying that because he want's more control with over his online presence. Msn search is just too cluttered although they did try to simplify it with its Google copy cat attempt. Similar to the Hotmail Live. In my opinion hotmail was trying to adopt the Gmail feel by going simple and plain. Although I think it was more complicated while trying out the MSN Live Beta I quickly switched back to the regular Hotmail. Now all I use hotmail for is when I want to send a lot of pictures with their picture tool. The day Gmail adopts that method I will be done with hotmail(may keep them around for memories). Don’t worry Gates I still love XP. No problems with that for me. : )

i guess it wont hurt to have another search engine out there, but how will we deal with searching on intranets etc? maybe a whole new type of optimisation out there.

I doubt it... I don't think Google's audience cares much about PR, it's mainly the webmasters who need it.

too many people use google now to overthrow it
Its too late for microsoft, the only thing they can hope to do is get some of its ad revenue. Adwords sucks, if adcenter picks up the pace, microsoft can make some money
