Game sites worth it?

I have a domain that I'd like to turn into a game site, but I'm wondering if they are even worth the hassel, being that they seem to be everywhere on the net.

I'm also wondering if those game scripts or worth it? Like gamesitescript.com and gamescript.net? Wouldn't I be just as well off using a CMS such as TextPattern and publishing games that way? I don't really think I need all the functionallity of those scripts, like members, top games, how many have been payed, etc...or do I to get the most out of the game site? Also, right now I'm just on a small reseller plan. I assume the game sites take up a lot of bandwidth, would I have to get that site on it's own dedicated server?

    Thanks.

If it's an online arcade, I personally think those pre made scripts are crap. Well sorry let me re-phrase that, the scripts itself are decent ( other then every site using them look identical ) but the games you get with them are crap. The only way to go with this nowadays (imo) is to have your own script with custom games which unless you can make both on your own prob isn't worth your ROI unless you got the proper resources to make it work...

but if you go for it, I don't think you would need a ded server for it until you got it built up pretty big. Either way you decide good luck :)

    Thanks for the helpful replies!

ph33rgear: Yeah, I always thought it looked like the games you get with those scripts looked like crap. I figure if you're going to make a game site, at least have something people want to play. I definitely don't have the know to design my own custom script or games, so I might have to rethink the idea. At any rate, I figure if I do try to roll with it, I'll just use TextPattern and add the games that way. To start with, just search around for different games from different arcade sites and start adding and see where it goes. I invision this site being something along the lines of http://www.addictinggames.com/. They don't have a member registration, or top games played list, or a certain number of credits to play the games. I like how they just have games listed by category and that's it.

    Thanks again.

It isnt worth to start an acrade site now. Only if you have massive cash to spend at advertising. There is loads of turnkey website out there now :( sucks !
