Is it possible to gain PR on a domain that has been dropped previously? For the sake of link selling, I've been working on one particular website and purchasing links on quality PR sites. It's been nearly 2 PR updates since I initially started link building, and still not an ounce of PR has been given to me.
Yes, it's possible. A lot of times dropped domains have been blocked from indexing or had a ban for something done by the previous owner. If you are sure the domain should be showing PR, make sure your site is in full compliance with google, and then you can file a reconsideration request via their webmaster tools explaining to them exactly when you purchased the domain. If you have already added or sold a bunch of links, google might have manually adjusted your PR to 0 and the site is going to be screwed from selling links in the future.
Alright, thanks for the info. And nah, haven't sold any links on it yet as the PR is still zero...But I have been adding my site to popular blog directories and putting reciprocal links for a link in return. I'm hoping by next update, it'll go up. But either way traffic is steadily climbing, so I'm pretty content at the moment. It's just having some PR would be an added plus and it would expand the monetization on the site just a little bit more. Thanks again. :]
Reciprocal links are usually ignored by google for passing PR these days. Most of the free directories have also been hit by google. Google is in its "unbiased & natural" link mode - reciprocal links are only there because you linked to them.
most good way to keep dropped domain PR is: 1. check archive of old page 2. make sure home page get same header(title, desc, keys) as old one. !important 3. make same page structure and old one. !important 4. get all archive pages(from archive.org, google cache etc) alive again with almost same content the whole idea is, make google think, the website is back, just change hosting and some design (for the copyright thing, is another story
"putting reciprocal links for a link in return" I suggest you concentrate on getting one way links only. Google don't like reciprocal links.
