So there I am, on the school server when you know I'm logging in to adsense, telling my friends how I get money eveytime they click on the ads (i didn't say at home) so then i find out, they have been diligently clicking on ads from the school server which i have logged into. Since they all must have the same external IP am I gonna get kicked? How does google do it? Is it once you've reached $100?

Well, they might find out. You might want to e-mail Google and tell them.

However, there is a rule you should follow and that is to resisit the urge to tell people about your site or how you make money off of it.

These are the situations that come out of it.

Boy I would write Google now. Ask them to disallow all clicks and explain what happened. Next I would remove ads from pages your classmates/friends know about. If Google allows you to reamin in the program your friends will kill you in the future.

That's true. Don't tell people especially your friends about Adsense and how it works on your site. Their intentions might be good (to help you) but they will end up getting your account banned.

Plus, do email Google about this (with the IP Address as well if you can) explaining what's happened.

Finally, can you get the school IT guy to block out your site on the proxy server? i.e. so that nobody from school can open your site any more. I don't know whether you know who takes care of the network and whether you are comfortable asking him/her to do it, but it's possible and if it can be done, do it.

you should probably start up the loser ballad's at sporting events. Nah na na na, hey hey hey good bye. Its probably around the corner. Never tell friends, relatives, strangers, anyone you know that you run adsense. Its an invitation to fraudulent activity.

It is a nice rhyme, but alas, it's probably true. :(

I know how you feel. I was once trying to explain to some friends how I make money on the net, and telling them about Adsense. Then, later in the night, it occurred to me that I SHOULDN'T have told them. Luckily for me, my friends are computer illiterate, and they can barely remember my name, much less my website URL! :D Now I don't tell anyone anything.

You don't have to take it in a wrong way, because it's your fault, and yours only, if you get kicked from Adsense.

What did you thought when saying your coleagues about adsense ? They would've surely tried to click them to help.

Your only escape in the future, is to have much more collateral trafic (and therefore clicks) to surcompase the few clicks received from your school. (mentioning those clicks, and your situation, to google offcourse)

That's bad news for you. Especially after they just lost a 90 Million dollar class action suit for click fraud. :(

If you make $100 this month you won't get paid until April 26 so you probably will be banned by then.
People get banned from google adsense for much less.

I think If you tell them they are going to ban you anyway but that is just my opinion.

nice friends you have there. :)

fireball, i'm not too sure if you can escape this one. your best bet would be to apologise profusely, don't blame anyone and request that ALL your earnings be returned. after that it'll be up to them whether you stay or not.

Besides not telling people about your adsense ads, I think the lesson to be learned from this also is to, if at all possible, avoid accessing your adsense account from public computers or from larger networks using the same IP.

jblfireball, I'm afraid chances are very high that you'll be banned. I doubt writing to google will help any, but it's probably the best thing to do in the given situation.

Why would you doubt it. They have been understanding for so long now, with so many account holders, who did much worse.

Just don't want to inspire false hope, anyhow I do recommend he writes them. Maybe I should have worded it: "It's far from certain that it will help, but.." A little more optimistic :)
