GA Conversion Rate tracking and multiple web site questions (warning newbie inside)

Greeting and Happy New Year GA users!

The company I work for has 2 websites; one is an informational site with links to product information, contact us, markets served and the like. The other is an e-commerce site where all direct to consumer transactions take place.

They have been using campaigns on AdWords but as far as I can tell there has not been any analysis of ANY of the GA measures. Keyword analysis is done in AdWords and only to the extent of which word occurs most often, there is not tie in to the e-commerce site to track conversions.

With that being said, and given I am very new to both AW and GA I would appreciate some pointers on the following:

-Does it make sense to have the info site linked to GA if I can't get spend metrics or is there value in seeing page visits and bounce rates (etc.) anyway?

-To get conversion rate data the e-commerce site MUST be linked in GA correct?

-Does it make sense to have an informational site AND an e-commerce site as separate entities?

As I wrap my head around all this (I am going through the on-line GA Training) these questions come up.

    Thanks in advance,

    -Brian
