I was watching the news at lunch time there and was shocked at the amount of people involved in violent protests. It's not that I didn't expect it but I guess it's just strage thinking that it's going on about 30 miles away from my house. I thought with all the peaceful protests going on with Bob Geldof that violent protestors might see sense and follow the peaceful route. Do you think that violent protests ever get people anywhere politically? Heres a video from the BBC on some of the protesters http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4654483.stm
I think they are scumbags and worse then the politicians. They give the peaceful protestors a black cloud which is not right. Not to mention the major injuries to police. They have familys too and are just trying to do their job. I can't stand those that resort to violence in this situation. Most of them do it for the hell of it. They don't care about the G8 or anything else. Next week they will be hoping in their BMW to the next protest.
To me violent protest makes protest group look radical and takes away from legitimacy of the cause they advocate. Shannon
From what I have heard there are large groups across from Italy and various other places that just wish to engage viilently with the police for fun, the G8 is of no importance to them and a lot of the violence seems to be from these groups.
There does seem to be a lot of Italians being involved in violence recently. Remember the Champions League game Liverpool played in against Roma I think it was, there were Italian fans fighting amongst themselves.
These people are just unpaid thugs, they would go to totally opposing marches if it meant they can do some damage.
And they are probably Capitalists themselves buying designer clothing and high performance sports cars
Thanks for your cultivating insight to this topic Voltaire. By the way.... are you not one of the pokemon?
vilent protestors to me are too emotional. they are out of their minds, unable to think logically. they give reason for the government to hurt them in return and not lsiten to them.
I currently feel like there is a whole Junior High School class that has made Digitalpoint its project.
violence is often the only way to get things done not saying that the G8 protesters are getting anything done but if there is no violence then protests don't get any coverage, nobody cares if people walk around with signs. Start burning shit down people start listening. Do you think anything would have happenend if they peacefully protested after the rodney king aquittal? Once a big chunk of LA was on fire, people decided to start looking into the verdict. Look at saddam hussein it took a bit more then peaceful protest to get him out of power
Although I thought Live8 raised awareness in a way that violence never would. I sincerely doubt people stoning police convinces the Group of 8 to change policy. If anything it does the opposite.
