So I have recently installed wordpress, and I keep getting WEIRD comments left and the URL is G****E.com for the backlink . . . so why would some one post a comment then leave the back link as G if its not them . . . and its not on just one site . . . its on many

I dont like using programs that stop robots because I have tried to post on some blogs before and for some reason they think i am a robot, so I would like to just approve by hand.

The only reason i find it weird . . . is because alot of there pages are PR 9 and 10 and for being so strict on spam . . . it would just seem kinda odd that they like to spam themselves

not everyone who leaves a comment has a web site so ppl will often put yahoo. google etc ... what ever comes to mind first as they assume they have to put something.

Just to throw this out, we're big fans of Typepad Antispam: antispam.typepad.com Akismet is just too political and once you get nabbed by them, you have to jump through hoops to get unlisted. And that is if they're willing to do it.

Try giving something like WP hashcash a try. All it does really is check to see if the browser has javascript enabled:

    wordpress-plugins.feifei.us/hashcash/

I think the comments are from spammers who want to see if you'll approve comments that have website links in them. Google/ Yahoo etc. look like trustworthy sites to links. Once you've approved though, expect a ton of spam from the same people.
