Try it yourself. It is basically for those who has cellphones but with no internet connection. I don't think the market will be big. Just think this: If you want to order pizza at 10048. they returned 10 lists. So what? Call them all? It is a nice feature, but will not go very far.
In the UK sms is HUGE... Everyone sends text's - It's just cheaper that way... Any person under the age of 15 that owns a phone, (at least my lil sister and all her mates), can type on the phone keypad nearly as quickly as I can type on a keyboard... Good move G!
I wish I got into this before time. I have a cunning plan. Do you knwo what blocks sms from being super popular? The speed of input. I desidned an method in 2000, but failed. I designed another way to input, quickly. I have not seen this one in the market yet, not sure if the software can support it. And it is very sad, the tech is low and idea is high, so it is not patentable. It sill be copied all over, unless I am teamed with eBay like company to ban anything with a ebay in it AutionBid Autionwatch all went down by ebay.
My phone has the T9 method. Basically what that means is that you can write your word out on the phone and it will interpret what you mean. For instance, say you want to type the word 'that' into your phone. The button combo with T9 would be 8428. Without T9 you would get TGAT as the output because it would take the first letter in the three letter combo. It basically makes it a lot faster because you don't have to cycle through. And if it comes up with another word that falls in the same input range, you can simply hit the down arrow on your navigation and it will cycle through the other possible words you can want. I'm not sure if the T9 method is on all phones with text message capabilities. I think it's on most newer ones now.
SMS and MMS are widely use here in south-east asia. 8 out of 10 family member has a cellphone and use SMS every hour. I wonder if Google SMS will be available on this side of region
Not in the US There are more 'free' options for calling that text messages seem pricey. My friend got a $500 bill because he sent messages constantly.
Wow! How much does each message cost over there? I get 250 free every month and would be amazed if I even sent 20% of them...
I've had 300 SMS per month free for at least 3 years. Kids can type REALLY fast. I'd say about 40 words per minute.
It's when you see them in the night club... texting their friends in the night club down the road.. I'm sure we used to arrange to go to the same clubs when I was in the flush of... <drift into reverie>
