G and subdomains - swapping position

Not sure yet what to make of it but over the last weeks I monitor the following
whilst targetting "natural asthma remedy"

G knows and has a main site (which is shopping) as well as a subdomain which is product support.

Every other day these two swap positions whilst steadily climbing.
E.G. yesterday the main domain was on 79 or so today the subdomain is on 57 - either sub or main is gone from top 200.

Yahoo is a bit cleverer and sees the sub on 22 and the main on 80 steadily increasing but keeping their distance.

I also see this for other combinations of main and sub.
It makes no real difference for me but I'm curious enough to mention it here.

want two positions in serps? get two sep domains on two hosts. Now it is too obvious to Google that the two are related
