I will be doing internship ,where I will learn and use db2 by IBM But i am quite skeptical of its scope in future I want to know if there are jobs for it in the market and where does it stand compared to Oracle's , market-wise and learning curve ?
Sure there is perspective, other than anything else IBM is a giant and wont allow DB2 to disappear. I think better perspective may be getting in NoSQL databases like MongoDB, just personal opinion.
You'll be learning SQL - that will never be useless. A SQL programmer can adapt to another database (like Oracle) easily. (But you have to learn programming too - just knowing SQL isn't very marketable.)
There are many job opportunities for DB2 in market and has great future. DB2 has some awesome features that could take database to much higher level. So go ahead with DB2, you will be learning alot. Good luck.
I don't think DB2 would be especially marketable. IBM customers compared to just about any other database are rare and are typically in very specialized areas. If you make good connections, it's quite possible that you can fill some DB2 niche but I would use it more as a platform to expand into other databases, as suggested by others.
