I think that over the last year there has been a dramatic revolution in the directory industry. Several of the older directories are in serious decline or have even closed and many younger directories are growing quickly. I've written out some of my thoughts here: http://www.avivadirectory.com/downloadblog/?p=285 I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on what I have written, or what all these changes might mean for the directory industry, or what they think may lie in the future of the directory industry.
I guess keeping a directory at a good position is a matter of anticipation of the Search engines algorithms. Strategies change according to Google changes and unfortunately or fortunately, that s changing all the time.. so often we have to keep informed of any events from these big engines! Anytime newest dir. may beat the oldest...
One thing that is a guaranteed certainty is that if any of the new up and coming Directories or the established ones, take their 'eye off the ball' they will get replaced by a Directory that has 365/24/7 focus and innovation Directories interact and operate in a dynamic market place the focused one's will always come out top of the pile, if they drop there focus by even 10% they will get swamped and overtaken by a Directory with 100% focus
Deep Links II coming to a directory near you :evil grin: My main focus now is to get the owners into the admin more often that not, because in doing so, they will have more interest and 'fun' with what they are doing.
I enjoy the read. Old directories need to learn to stay up with the innovate changes or they will lose in the long run.
Great read. I to think it is sad to see some of the older directories throw in the towel like that. Funny thing is that directories such as zeal and business.com could have been so dominate in this market. And I agree that there is still plenty of room for some of the newer directories to take over this market. But just like any other market out there, sooner or later a much stronger and more determined generation will take the lead.
Could you guys provide the correct link, cause all I get is "Sorry, no posts matched your criteria." How did you read the post?
I'm not sure why people are having a hard time reading the post - the link works for me?! Anyhow, for the moment it's the first post on the blog, so this link should work: http://www.avivadirectory.com/downloadblog/
That is really a good read I agree to what you have said about new directory owners. You need to be one step ahead if you want to get a decent name out there. Being new directory owner myself, I know that only getting some high PR links doesn’t mean much if I want to be at the top. I always get some points from your nicely written articles. That's a great resource to learn new things
yup very much agreed ... left a comment for you to moderate basically what i think it is that the floor is open just need to innovate.. In order for a field to expand its limits someone must innovate and bring new ideas.
Nice article to read.. But sad also about those big directories are shutting down/shut down.. Surprised to read about business.com
We are a growing industry and in effect its simple math and 2 part fold... Due better then the next guy and you will prosper.. What it takes? $$ and knowledge and skillz Fall behind and you will lose and perish No need to proceed further....Game Over..... thx malcolm
I could be crazy, but it still does not work for me. Even when I go to: http://www.avivadirectory.com/downloadblog/ The last post for me is "More Directory of the Month Contest Winners". Could this be in some way related to our location. I am in Europe, so maybe it has something to do with it? Maybe Americans get to see it, and we don't
Very nice article there Jeff. As I have stated before there are some directories right now that are willing to take that void. I have posted it somewhere that theres a new group in town called the The Modern Innovations. These are directories that are so aggressive that it will try and fit wherever it can. There is no stopping and it has to move along. Were Hot and Rolling.
Can I ask one simple question: "How much of your directory traffic comes from directory submission people? " and "Do you really get any USER traffic for keyword ranking ??????" From what I get in my directories is just submitters no people .. I guess if its the same with you then most probably G and the other SEs will change their mind of the value of directories as being mostly SEO spam and nothing else .. Share your thoughts .. Cheers, Venetsian.
