    hi Everyone

i am new to this SEO concept, Just have a question about it.
Why people use SEO? To get higher rank in search results page and be visible on the net more than their competitors or what? Now a day will come when everyone starts applying SEO to there site. But there will be only 10-12 sites on the first search page defeating the purpose of SEO for others. Please Share your views

    Thanks

    Just think about this.

You start a new site and you have millions of results already ahead of you. The reason why you do SEO is to rank higher than the million other pages already.

Now if everyone does SEO then only the ones who do it the best will be ranked on the first page. I doubt you will find anyone on the first page of Google for a competitive term now that hasnt done SEO for that site. First couple pages also.

Point being is that the first couple of pages of results for competitive terms dont end up there by accident. They all have been targeting that phrase to get there.

So what I am saying is we are already at that point you speak of and it really cant get much worse. Well it can get worse the more other people try to get higher rankings.

As people continue to do more business and research over the Internet, search engine optimization (SEO) firms are scratching their heads wondering how to achieve great rankings for their Web clients.

And business owners are getting more desperate because they want a piece of the $143 billion online sales that took place in the United States during 2005. That's a 22% jump from 2004 with no slow down in sight.

Search engines are machines. They compile information about the Web site content it indexes and records.

In a nutshell, there is no magic bullet to great search engine results. But using "Content that is Relevant to your Visitors" will take you a long way. Build your Web site for visitors and search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask, Tehoma, AlltheWeb, Excite, and Lycos, will follow.

I'd look at it like this: search engines want to pleasee visitors. Whatever tactics that work today, but hurt good results, don't count on them to last. Be as natural as you can. Some tricks are cool, but relying on them being effective tomorrow and then crying when they stop working is not the way to go :)

With growing online sales, SEO business is getting bigger every year. :D
And this will not change unless people log off and go back to read newspapers.

Future of SEO is bright but is also full of thorns as search engines make it more difficult to attain higher positions. Then so many people aiming at the same target makes it even more difficult.

Get real links, so you don't depend on the search engines completely :)

Absolutely agree to this point of view, quality links, good unique content, may be press release - nothing more. If you start with spam methods - you'll get hurt from them.
