Now a days many SEO experts are saying that future of SEO will be Social Media only. Slowly general SEO activities are getting obsolete. Activities like directory, article, pr submissions etc. Shall we need to adopt new techniques / process, if yes then on which processes or techniques we need to give more focus? Is it something like wind of change...Whats about your views?
SEO future is bright till the Google available here, social media is just for getting traffic, but most business people can get from Search Engine only.
Google's guidelines still state that SEO is an integral part of ranking on their search engine. Granted, Social Marketing is a great way to attract new visitors, but the fundamentals of SEO will always remain the same in my opinion. If you optimize your website that is relevant to users, then you can't go wrong either way.
Don't waste your time thinking about any uncertain future. Just do what's the latest trend in present. Better to move forward without taking any tension.
Buddy, Social Networking is very important these days. I have a live example of a website which is ranked no where in Google but have a traffic of 200 per day.. It is all from Facebook/Twitter... It gives us targeted audience..

I definitely agree that SEO activities such as mass directory submissions and article marketing are getting less effective, and probably won't help much at all in the future, but I wouldn't say that means that SEO is coming to an end. Rather, social media shares and the activities of your friends and connections are metrics that search engines are starting to take into account for rankings. Focusing on quality content is always the best way to be sure you're well poised for the future.
According to me PPC, Affiliate Marketing and Social media are the present successful techniques in SEO.

In case Google starts depending upon social sites, then its sure they are going to loose huge market. So as per my views it will be solely dependent upon those natural link building etc.. You cannot say you can get ranked using social sites, i think that's all rubbish
