let me guide u, seo, online marketing help every business to get online business, lead via internet promotion of your website with contact details so globally people know their business and interested people contact them so its better option then hardcore marketing.. now u think, how many companies are there in any field, and 1 company need atleast 1-2 seo so how many required for n number of comp. so u can ask yourself for future of seo.
SEO career is really a very good career. I would suggest that if you are interested in lots of new work as well as heavy internet savvy than this career can create wonders for you. Yes its true that like other fields you have to be updated every day for new methods and tools. best of luck!

SEO is a part of the internet marketing. The internet has taken over the traditional marketing venues like print or broadcast advertising. SEO is in high demand and will be so in the future. You do want to keep your eye on the bigger picture which is the internet marketing. Simply knowing SEO isn't the goal because the search engine landscape can change overnight. But internet marketing is here to stay.
If you are strongly looking for SEO career, then you don't need any pre-qualification. If you have sound analytical skills then it is enough. The future is rocking but it is limited to only top 10. No body would be interested in browsing the other sites. Don't you agree with that?
The SEO landscape may be changing, but the core methodology needed is the same - extremely good content, lots of good backlinks, well chosen keywords, viral tools, good page structure, good navigation structure, become a leader in your field, etc. It's just that the competition keeps growing too, so SEO requires more and more effort.
