I do agree with some of the things there, but I also recognize what I call the "angry geek syndrome". The kind of guys who used to get beat up and shoved into lockers now let it out on DP members and try to get us back for it. Also shows no class the way Nintendo's post has been edited before he was banned. Anyways, the guys there may make money, but the REAL blackhat people hang at www.shoutingzone.com/blackhat
Wickedfire people hold nothing against them. Sorry, but I have not seen anything useful at WF after looking hard for about 15 minutes.

Maybe the adsense ad should link directly to that post. I'm sure it will make people sign up.

Its difficult to believe that wicked fire can even be compared to DP.

WickedFire is all about marketing. DP covers everything that you could think of dealing with the Internet.

Sorry, am getting tired. But when I see an ad where Digitalpoint is phishing for members from other forums, I will take a closer look. ;)

I'm sure DP had to advertise in some way when they were starting up. Now days DP would never need to advertise though.

DP still advertises through adwords. But never has it or never will it advertise something along the lines of

"Sick of XXXXXXXXX forum? Come and join DP"

Only the useless and really desperate ones will go in for such ads!

Not from what I remember. I was here in the beginning, or a month late, something like that (member number 559). Back then everyone from all the other (lame) webmaster forums came over. It was the best crowd ever, Aaron Wall, Randfish etc. posting regularly. There was really not a need to advertise. People wanted to sign up and join.
Everyone was courteous (imagine that WF  ) and it worked. Yes, DP has gone downhill since. But WF has never been what DP once was and I highly doubt it ever will.

In addition the coop and the DP tools were getting very big at the time and this was the support forum for that.

Maybe there was some advertising. But I came here because SEO Chat went down the drain bigtime and here you had the best of the best taking the time to network and share stuff no other forum did.

    Quality survives.

Nobody wants to read "I make more money than Shoemoney" posts like it's pretty common on WF. People want to know what they can do to learn to improve their own rankings, affiliate sales and such.

Until a year after I joined only 1 person I recall got banned in the whole year. There was no need to be rude. This was the first and only cool webmaster forum without the angry geek syndrome. So once again, there was no need to phish anywhere else (except people from here talking about DP on other forums and Shawn having his sig link there). Let Wicked Fire do what they have to do. There are much better forums out there, so this is just about business and reputation. Some earn it, others have to pay for it. DP was always able to stand on its own. That should tell you a lot right there.

DP is mostly for people who cant afford the DNForum fees :) - useful for buying cheap domains and cheap scripts.

Good post. Do i smell some Nostalgia there ;)

Every forum and business has it's halcyon days, when everything is shiny and bright and when it feels like nothing can go wrong or as if nothing is wrong with the entire world. But it can't go on forever ........

The ad is brilliant, because it prompted this thread, and is providing loads of free advertising. A marketer would get that. Fanboys will not.

I've seen a lot more people helped on WF than DP, which is depressing considering the size of the membership.

Yup, creating controversy is always a good marketing strategy, if you can handle it's side effects.

There is help and good things to be learned in every forum, it's about finding the right people. Bigger isn't always better ;)
