Funding US Paypal account (and implicitly US bank account) from abroad

Hi. I lived in the US for a few years and I still have a US bank account, US credit card and a US Verified Premier Paypal account.

Now I live outside the US and I am looking for a smart way to fund my US bank account from abroad, and avoid the taxes for international wires and such. So I thought about using Paypal for this.

I opened a bank account here in Romania, where I am now, and I also got a Visa card associated with that account. I thought to add that card to my US Paypal account and fund the Paypal account from the card, then withdraw to my US bank account. The problem is that the US Paypal account doesn't allow me to change the country to anything other than United States, when I try to add an account or a credit card.

I also thought to open another Paypal account and add my Romanian card to that account, then send money to my US Paypal account. The problem here is that my US Paypal account is Premier, so I would have to pay the 3.4% Paypal tax to receive money to that account, right?

To be honest, I am sort of out of ideas. Anyone has a "moment of inspiration"?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I had the same problem here in Costa Rica, EXCEPT I didn't still have a US bank account, and it's very difficult to set on up from outside the country. PayPal ONLY lets you add funds via a US bank account. My solution, which actually took several weeks, was to go through a Costa Rican bank. I found a bank here that let me set up an account with them, and which uses a US bank account for PayPal purposes. The funds get automatically transferred from the US account to the Costa Rican account.
