Aside from kicking out 5 grand for a google mini, what options for a full text site search do I have? The various database based options I have on my site now are all disparate (mv type search for individual blogs, directory search, amazon product search, etc.) and a google or yahoo search is only as good as the number of indexed pages. That and the google site search + adsense doesn't display supplemental results.
I have used htdig ( http://www.htdig.org/ ) before. It worked ok. I even submitted a bug fix or two for it many years back. It is not for the faint of heart to configure but it works pretty good when you have the local filesystem version of the site and it works "ok" for the dynamic content you have to access via http..
thanks. I've actually been working with tsep - it's also an open source project up on sourceforge. htdig looks a little more mature. Thanks for the info. It's a nice find.
nevetS: Perhaps How do I add a site search feature to my web site? will help you. Search Tools is ... well... insanely well done.
