Full post or excerpt?

What do you prefer to display on your blog homepage, the full post or an excerpt only?

 

Full post on the front page and excerpts on the other pages.
But if it were not like that be default with my template I'd always go for full posts.

 

Thats what ive got too, i think il stick with that.

 

Is this a setting in WP? Or some plugin?

I prefer excerpts on every listing pages and in RSS. It is bigger chance for getting traffic.

 

Excerpt. Having whole posts means people have to scroll down your whole post to see the next one on the homepage etc. This is particularly seen when you have huge posts. You can keep displaying full posts if your posts are the size of an excerpt

I use the excerpt editor and just add some nice descriptions to my posts and a little intro and then I display it on every page including RSS. You can see what I mean in my sig.

Nope, the Options Theme favours excerpts for additional pages so I left it like that..

Go to my site then click next page or Page 2...and you'll see how it switches to excerpts with thumbnails.

 

I use full posts myself, but my posts are usually short. Haven't had the need to use excerpts yet. Maybe one day I will when I feel like being long winded.

Well, technically, if you display full posts on any page other than their own pages, then you will therefore have duplicate content and end up getting penalized. So excerpts are definitely the way to go because the bulk of your post should obviously be below the excerpt with a brief introduction acting as the excerpt.

if your post is longer use excerpt on the frot page else short use full post

 

you will NOT be penalized for duplicate content if you use a full post rather than an excerpt. I don't know where you get that information from but it certainly is not accurate because if it was, thousands of blogs would be penalized, and they aren't.

 

I use a comnination, normally top 3 full posts and the rest excerpts. Dont like as others, home page being very very big.

 

Its standard on mine without a plugin.

Makes me consider doing the same.

Im considering for the front page.

I have quite decent sized posts, not massive, but they are a fair size and i think it may justify switching to excerpts for the from page.

I guess zeldaze means if your posts are full posts, and archives are full posts and archives are set in a certain way then maybe result in duplicate content, i may be wrong.
