Hi Guy's, I currently own a fairly successful Celebrity wallpaper site which is about 2 years old. The site has been custom built by myself and is pretty unique! The site currently offers both desktop wallpapers and mobile phone wallpapers all for free! The site has loads of content and is currently making about $50 per month with google, but ultimately i am looking at driving more revenue to my site. Currently the site is a PR2 and i am expecting this to rise to a PR 4 when google performs its next PR update due to a huge amount of seo work recently completed on it. Firstly how much would a site like this be worth if i was to consider selling it?? or would i be better off keeping it? Secondly i am looking at offering a Full Page advertising space on the site, How much could i sell this space for on an annual basis for? Also which would be the best forum to advertise something like this in? Are there any specific websites where i can sell advertising like this? The good news is the site is ranking on the front page of google within the top 5 results for some very competitive keywords. Hi Tom, I think you'll find that a lot of members here would be very interested in advertising on your site, particularly because of your Google rankings. I imagine that this alone would bring in hundreds if not thousands of visitors every day. If you don't have any luck here, you can place a listing in the Sitepoint Marketplace for $10. Sitepoint listings always attract potential buyers, so definitely keep it bookmarked. You'll be basing your price on the amount of traffic you receive and the amount of incoming links your site has. If your site has 1000 uniques a day, I'd start it off at $50/month. If you're still unsure of what to charge for an ad, try auctioning one ad spot off (without setting a BIN), and base your other positions on what it ends up selling for. With regards to selling your site, it's hard to give you an estimate without knowing what kind of traffic it pulls in. All the best!
Hi mate, Thanks for your reply! The site is getting quite a large amount of traffic about 4000 unique hits per month and continually rising each month! I have taken a look on the SitePoint Marketplace as you suggested, are there any other sites that allow you to place an advert? i.e. on high traffic sites? Regards Tom
That's a decent amount of traffic, good work. What I'd do is install Openads on your site and offer 4-5 banner positions site-wide. As I said before, auction off one position here on DP and see what it sells for, then place a listing on Sitepoint to sell off the remaining positions. They should sell like mad. Unfortunately I don't know of any other sites to advertise on. I've had fantastic results with Sitepoint so I haven't really bothered to look around. I was just looking at your AdSense placement and I do think you could earn a lot more if you optimize the ads. Try experimenting with different colours so that the ads stand out - remember that the traffic you're targeting are looking for free stuff for their mobile, so if they don't find what they're looking for on you're site, they'll more than likely click an ad with more "FREE MOBILE WALLPAPERS!". Try posting a thread in the Placement/Reviews/Examples category. You'll get a bunch of very good tips regarding your placement and whatnot there.
