FTP Will Not Allow Me to Sign In

Alright, so here's the deal. A couple of weeks ago, I began experiencing problems with my "former" web host. It seemed that every time I tried to connect to the FTP, it would disconnect me once I was connected. In the same manner, my website on my host began timing out. Now I was quite puzzled at first and thought maybe it was the individual host.

    So...

I switched hosts and now the same thing is happening with the new host. Every time I try to connect via the FTP program (I tried with SmartFTP and CuteFTP and it keeps disconnecting me once I'm connected.)

I have broadband (Comcast) internet and use a Linksys WIRED router. I've tried refreshing the IP thinking that may be the issue but still with no luck, I'm disconnected everytime.

Does anyone know what the case may be?

Try switching your ftp client to passive mode and see if that helps.

    Hi,

Make sure your host supports passive ftp and that you have your ftp client configured to use passive mode as unless the router does FTP connection tracking (it will probably not say this in the documentation) it is the only way you will be able to access ftp from behind it.

You should also get a friend to attempt to connect to your account using your login details to see if they have a problem. Ideally they should have a different ISP than you do.

You should really submit a ticket to your host about the issue.

I resolved the issue, the standard "Windows Firewall" I guess was blocking it because I turned it off and voila, it worked. Although the upload speeds are a TINY bit slow, its still all good, its situated now. Thanks again everyone...
