Ftp Php BB only way to get it on site?

Someone just told me that phpbb 3 had subforums(appreciate the info), and I am now trying to install it to my server with ftp. I am reading a tutorial about this and it says that I need the following from my host before I even begin.

The name of the FTP server for your website. For example, your host may tell you that your FTP hostname is "ftp.example.com".
Your user id or login username for your FTP account.
Your password for your FTP account.
The directory where you need to place your files so that they can be seen by a web browser visiting your site. For example, your host may tell you to place the files in a subdirectory called "www" or "public_html" or even the default directory that you see when you log into your FTP site.

Is there someway to find the server and directory to install or do you really have to e-mail or call the hosting company. Can't I create a new account with password. Any help appreciated.

Do you have a control panel? If you do, you should be able to create FTP accounts from there.

Yes I have a control panel and see where I can create FTP accounts, but I am wondering if as it says in the tutorial that I was reading if I have to ask my host where I can upload my files or I can just pick a place.

You can upload it anywhere you like. Upload the phpBB folder just like you'd upload any other file.

make sure your files are at least in public_html or www folder,
    there the same location.

if you want to place your phpbb in a folder called forums, then it will be at public_html/forums

    and your ftp is yourdomain.com
    your user name
    and your password.

If you enter on your ftp server you should be able to see public_html/www/ or your own domain name (depending on your control panel) if you see any of these folders just enter them and upload the files, remember if you want to have your forum located on the root you may want to upload the files in root and not on a subdirectory like (phpBB3)
