I am getting the following message when I try to access my server.

I tried going in passive mode, doesn't work either I get this message.

I've never had these messages before.

I have also tried accessing a different server, and received that exact message that it won't open a connection on that server either...

Do you have any firewall installed in your system. If yes then try to access FTP after disabling it. Also, revert the any security changes you have made in your system if any.

Try to use passive mode if you are not using it.

    Hello,

Ask your provider to check the FTP server ..a re-install of FTP server will fix this problem.

500 I won't open a connection to nnn.nnn.n.n (only to nn.nn.nnn.nn) (the latter being my IP.

the 500 error comes when your ISP provider try to save bandwith using bad configurations on servers ( ports )

u are in cable maybe ... and they do that ... the node where you are at ISP is not configured as it should be, u need ask to your ISP to fix that issue .. or move from there here in mexico the "cable company" do that to avoid torrent or other p2p programs to run on their oversold bandwith :D
