Frustrated with directories

I am really frustrated with submitting to directories and want to know if it really help.

First of all they really should not require reciprocal links because just having one of us go to their sites and submit free means we see and might respond to their ads.

I am concerned about paying for a link because they might not approve it and my money would be waisted. Even if you do pay many still require a recriminate link. But paying and providing a reciprocal link does not insure you will get in.

I am also concerned that my backlinks need to be one way (from another site to mine with no reciprocal link in order to truly help. Everything is stacked in their favor even though there are thousands of directories competing with each other and the avrage person does not even know there are such search options as directories so traffic is not going to be much.
As far as free directories who have the choice to select free with no reciprocal link that seems not to be the truth All of them with that option forced me to put their reciprocal link on my site even with the free with no reciprocal link.

If you are lucky a directory will send you an email saying you submission is being reviewed with no conformation if they except it so you could end up with a lot of reciprocal links that send them traffic but don't do anything for your site. You could at least take their reciprocal link our if they sent you a email saying you were rejected but that is rare. It is easuy to see we need them more than they need us but even if your submission is excepted search engines might not count it as a link because if is a reciprocal link

I do article submissions, post on forums and blogs for backlinks as it is so is it possible I am waisting my time with directories?

I have never really had any luck with directory submissions. I have found that commenting on blogs with related content has a much stronger influence on my keyword position.

You are not wasting your time on directory submissions. There are some free directories that don't require reciprocal links. Most pay-for-review directories I know don't require reciprocal links either and you will get your money back if your link is not accepted. Make sure the directories you pay clearly state money back policy in their pricing details or guidelines before you submit.

Don't do directory submissions if you have so many queries and issues.

By providing a reciprocal link to a directory you aren't doing them any favor, you do it so as to get approved faster.

Incase you decide to pay for a link and have queries, use the contact form of that respective directory and contact the owner before submission. :)

I almost never give a reciprocal link to a directory. If it is a good niche directory that gets Google traffic then I'll trade a reciprocal. But I wouldn't give a general directory a reciprocal link. There are plenty of free general directories out there.

If you don't want to pay or provide reciprocal, submit to free directories, there are thousands of them.

Theres are thousands of free listing directories that dont require reciprocal links.

Again theres lots of paid directories that dont require reciprocal.

A lot would refund your money in full, if they dont give full or partial refunds for rejected listings they tell you in the guidelines, if they dont state this then ask them or avoid them.

Note: Nobody can force you to pay or provide a reciprocal link, if you are struggling to find free only directories im sure most of us can advise you here, if your struggling to find paid directories that give refunds and dont require reciprocal links just ask here, lots of people can advise you with that too.

It is easuy to see we need them more than they need us but even if your submission is excepted search engines might not count it as a link because if is a reciprocal link

Wrong, as soft as it sounds i actually need you more, as a directory owner myself, without submissions to my directory i have directories that dont earn.

Im unsure why your having such problems with directories to be honest, theres plenty to choose from.

I recently doubted that directories were good for anything but links but a couple of days ago I had a nice order from someone that came from a low traffic directory. This renewed my interest in them. If I can get a large order from just the handful I have submitted to what would happen if I had submitted to 1,000 directories?

I do know directory submissions are about the most boring task in the world.
I would rather count blades of grass in my yard than submit to directories. But I guess one does what they have to do.

dont do reciprocals. also directories are pretty much dead - submitting to 10,000 crap ones will do more harm than good.

Google knows they are only there for SEO. Search engines killed the practicality of going to a directory to find something so now they only remain for link builders.

I went to you directory and is still requires a link back from my site but it at least does not require registration, I have not submitted to directorates in several yeas and was surprised hoe many require you to register and get a username and password, I did not bother and I am sure this requirement keeps many others even those willing to spend money not to submit because that is another step that takes time,
