Frustrate with removing encrypted footer code

    Hi,

    Ok, I have read and followed the advice on this article which explains how to remove encrypted footer code.
    My website is www.downloadmusicnow.info

    I got my theme here:
    http://www.wpdaddy.com/theme/music-mag.html

    I followed the advice provided here:
    http://themebot.com/tips-and-tutorials/how-to-remove-encrypted-footer-links-in-free-wordpress-themes

    It basically explains how to surround the encrypted code with start and end footer comments which I added.
    Then, through View Source, I take the UNencrypted footer code and replace it in the footer.php file.

    However, when I take this replacement step, I still get the dreaded error message below and the theme locks up:
    "This theme is sponsored, all links in the footer should remain intact"

    Does this theme contain more advanced code which the fix I'm trying doesn't work for?

    Any Advice Appreciated

    George

    I hate encrypted footer codes. I give credit to people in all cases but not to the ones who encrypt and force users to give them credit. And it is difficult to know that the footer links are from the real theme provider. Besides, your theme has online gambling and dating links on the footer which are not acceptable for me.

    Anyway, here is the solution:

    1. If you are still on the "This theme is sponsored, all links in the footer should remain intact" screen, download the theme and replace the footer.php file with the original using cPanel File Manager or FTP. If it doesn't work using an FTP client like FileZilla, delete all the theme files and reinstall it.

    2. Open functions.php and remove the following code:

    eval(str_rot13('shapgvba purpx_sbbgre(){$y=\'Qrfvtarq ol <n uers="uggc://jjj.sverpnfvabf.pbz">Bayvar Tnzoyvat</n>.</qvi>
    <qvi pynff="fcbafbef">
    <n uers="uggc://jjj.uqzvpnoyrfpurnc.arg/">Pnoyrf UQZV Purnc</n>
    <n uers="uggc://oenzngryrpbz.pbz">Ibvc</n>
    <n uers="uggc://urniraqngrf.pbz">Bayvar qngvat</n>\';$s=qveanzr(__SVYR__).\'/sbbgre.cuc\';$sq=sbcra($s,\'e\');$p=sernq($sq,svyrfvmr($s));spybfr($sq);vs(fgecbf($p,$y)==0){rpub \'Guvf gurzr vf fcbafberq, nyy yvaxf va gur sbbgre fubhyq erznva vagnpg\';qvr;}}purpx_sbbgre();'));

    eval(str_rot13('shapgvba purpx_urnqre(){vs(!(shapgvba_rkvfgf("purpx_shapgvbaf")&&shapgvba_rkvfgf("purpx_s_sbbgre"))){rpub(\'Guvf gurzr vf eryrnfrq haqre perngvir pbzzbaf yvprapr, nyy yvaxf va gur sbbgre fubhyq erznva vagnpg\');qvr;}}'));
    Code (markup):
    3. Open header.php and remove the following code:

    <?php eval(str_rot13('shapgvba purpx_s_sbbgre(){vs(!(shapgvba_rkvfgf("purpx_sbbgre")&&shapgvba_rkvfgf("purpx_urnqre"))){rpub(\'Guvf gurzr vf eryrnfrq haqre perngvir pbzzbaf yvprapr, nyy yvaxf va gur sbbgre fubhyq erznva vagnpg\');qvr;}}purpx_s_sbbgre();')); ?>
    Code (markup):
    4. Open footer.php and replace the links as you wish.

    Such an encryption is an insult to me and I don't give credit to that.

    Finally, be careful using themes from untrusted sources.

    Thanks for the tip. I took your advice and that from Ashish and the fix worked great. The problem I had was that I tried to make the file modifications through WP online versus making the changes offline to the files and then FTPing the revised theme files up the site. Thanks for the assistance!
