Froogle Penalties and Filters

Discussion in 'Shopping' started by rustybrick, Jun 14, 2004.

Has anyone seen any filters or penalties instituted in the Froogle results?

I am hearing some "duplicate content filters" are taking place. This would make logical sense to me but does anyone have evidence or has anyone heard of this?

what do you mean by "duplicate content filters" ?

yes my rankings droped after been listed but could have been many other reasons as well, such as amazon awp (or what ever its called), back links from other sites i own same IP, server crasing during a crawl and reseting... etc... so i never assume anything.

nope - but no affiliate sites - avoids a lot of dupli.
We had no effect on listings by Froogle outside Froogle.
Product text becomes more important as Froogle grows.

Still haven't found out but certain categories and relation between confirmed listings and listings start showing top 3 products when no local info is shown on G.

For example, you have three stores. You submit one store, the other two then are crawled on its own. When the other stores are crawled, Froogle issues a dup content filter to store one.

Froogle will happily become a comparison engine as well.
Here is the original answer by Froogle to exactly my concern about multiple shops.
I've taken out all identifiers but if you need the original you can send me a pm

    Hello Martin,

    Thanks for writing.

Please send us the alternate URL for your store so we may update our
records. It will not affect the way your listings are now displayed on
    Froogle.

    Sincerely,

    The Google Team

    Subject: secondary shop

    Hi,
    I've a quick question.

For resiliance purposes and as a safety net we are going to generate a
second shop under a different domain but with the same content and layout,
so we can switch or domain forward should we encounter problems.

We do not intend to submit this to Froogle but we are worried about
potential duplicate filters in case Froogle / Google may find the second
    outlet.

If this is a problem what can you advise?

    Thank you very much

    With best regards
    M@rtin

(details of who I am and which feeds / shops are on Froogle where included)

You'd have to make ur other one way different I think ... google seems to have an uncanny knack of whacking out anything that looks like the same thing
