Frontpage and Publisher for newbies. Why not?

I am really glad I found this forum. The information I have read has been very informative. I have about 25 catchy .com names and thought I would try my hand at the adsense game. I have made small 10 page websites using Frontpage and or Microsoft Publisher. I guess this is what you guys call a wysiwyg web builder. I noticed that alot of people have suggested dreamweaver. I have limited experience with web design and this coding this looks really tough ( hats off to all the guys that can do it ). Is anyone using Publisher of Frontpage? Can a lay person really get into this growing field? Is there any good books about internet advertising for profit?

There are many books around but don't waste money purhcasing books because most of the data will be on the internet about this topic. However most of these sites will contain unreliable information, as they are only bothered about gaining visitors and money so be careful what you read into.
When it comes to the AdSense game i have found this website to be the most helpful, just go into the Google>Adsense forum on this website. The friendly people are always offering to help (apart from the odd few) and answer any queries you may have however simple/complex they may be.
As for frontpage/publisher i have never used them, the first tool i used was Dreamweaver. I would reccomend this to you 100%, this is the best WYSWIG builder you could ever get hats off to the designers of this program. The thing about dreamweaver is, while building your website it automatically generates the HTML code for you, and by clicking the Code tab you can learn many of the functions easily. I believe i am slowly learing HTML as well as time passes.
Of course theres the HTML manics who just use NOTEPAD to create there website, hats off to them mayn!!
Good luck in the AdSense game!

 Thanks wd 2k6. Great info. I really like publisher for the simplicity. I will check into Dreamweaver.Maybe I will end up a coder one day and yes, I understand great content will make or break a site.
I am always open to suggestions, anyone else out there I would greatly appreciate their comments

frontpage will build good sites, it's what content you put on there that matters.

you can also download a lot of templates/scripts now to make websites for you, however some coding knowledge is usually an asset.

To see whether your wysiwyg editor creates "good" pages, try running your pages through the w3 validator: http://validator.w3.org/

I'm one of those people who use text editors only. I started on notepad many, many years ago and have since switched to a great variety of text editors based on the environment I'm in. wysywyg editors tend to bloat the source and create invalid markup, as well as pages that can have differences between browsers. If you don't care much about that, then they are probably good for throwing something together quickly, but you're never going to develop a deep understanding of how and why (X)HTML/CSS work the way they do.

I built my first site using MS Office Publisher. I purchased a domain and hosting plan thru Aplus.net I uploaded my Publisher site to them and it worked great. After I learned about affiliate advertising I put some ads on my site. I soon learned that Publisher would not support the advertising for some reason. The ads kept moving all over the page covering up other things and sometimes moving off the page entirely.

I really liked Publisher but I took that site down because I wanted to use ads.

it all depends on what you want. if you're only concerned about creating great content sites, you can use either Microsoft Frontpage or Dreamweaver (although Dreamweaver is head and shoulders above Frontpage) and not concern yourself with coding too much.

if you want to become a coder, start with notepad or some other text editor. once you really learn to code using a certain language, you can use a tool such as Dreamweaver to help automate the process if you want.

either way, it only benefits you and doesn't take much effort and time to learn the basics of HTML, CSS, XHTML, Javascript and PHP. hope this helps :D
